New bridge by my house.....pic
Just took this pic. This bridge has been 30 years in the making as part of the Corridor D project. It is the last leg of the project and joins WV and Ohio on Rt. 50. This bridge posed a problem because they did not want to disturb the historic Blennerhasset Island that you can see in between the pilons.
The bridge will be a Network Arch Bridge upon its completion in a few weeks, at a cost of $120 million dollars. This is the final piece to the Corridor D project which is apart of the Appalachian Development Highway System.
Beginning the span (3 years ago) that will allow barge traffic under.
Completing the span in 2007

Believe it or not, Mr. Byrd used to come to our family reunions in Monroe county back in the '50's and '60's. He was a pretty decent fiddle player. They used to say that if he ever met a constituant one time, he never forgot his name or face. Needless to say, my Grandpa was a die-hard New Deal democrat.0 -
