I hate plowing!

Just got back from plowing my driveway. Started doing it late cause I didn't really want to do it.

When I first was able to plow it was kinda fun. But now it is just another nuisance.

How many here have plowed or need to plow your own road?



Oh yeah, almost forgot, my driveway is over 1/4 mile long. Which is great in being secluded and having no road noise, but makes for alot of plowing.

    I gotta go start the tractor in a little while and get to work. My drive is about 175 yards long. I also gotta go shovel the snow for the lady who used to day care our kids. I'll get my workout today.

    Sore subject here as my driveway sucks. It's really steep, and during the winter you can hardly get up it. I spent most of December pulling the wife up it when she got home from work. Then when it thaws, it get so damn muddy that you get stuck going up it. I added a load of rock and that just turned to soup when it thawed. I have a small tractor and blade that has saved me several times. Here's some pictures of it, so maybe you can see what I'm talking about.

    These pictures were taken last summer. Sure wish spring was here.

    Have you ever hung out with the guys at Yesterday's Tractor Co?
    Fairly good group of people.
    I have a 1951 Ferguson TE20 that needed an intake and was able to get one from them when no one else locally could find one. Would like to take the time and do a complete restoration on it. I have had it for about twenty years now and just like playing around on it.

    I love snowplowing!
    I bought my Dodge Ram back in '96 and bought a plow for it right away, and went to work for a friend of mine the first winter, what an easy way to make money!
    Now I just plow for a few friends and neighbors, and some charity plowing for a few elderly people that i kinda watch out for.

    No plowing here in SC for snow. I scrape my 750' about every two weeks or so. Soon to be paved. Wheres the house?

    When I was working I plowed for my employer. Now I plow myself and several others. We got just over a foot of snow up here yesterday afternoon and last night. I started plowing at 4AM this morning and finished about an hour ago.(about 11am) I kinda enjoy plowing. [:p]

    I live near Lake Erie in Northern Pa in Lake Effect country. Best thing I ever did was pick up a snowblower for my New Holland. It will blow snow over 70 feet.

    Les, it's a 1955 IH 300 Utility. She a darn good little tracor, even though she could use some power steering. I've been collecting parts for it the last couple of years so I can restore it to almost original. The only thing I won't do is change it back to 6 volt, and run the exhaust back under the belly like the originals had.

    Wundednee: that padded seat on your 8N is NOT original issue! Nice tractor.

    I don't plow snow anymore. Just drive over it, and let it pack down.

    I plow my one mile road plus a couple of neighbors. I've had to plow 12 times since early December. Had a loader come in a couple of weeks ago to move some of it around. By my calculations, this latest storm being about 12 inches, I just plowed pretty close to 3,000 cubic yards of snow. My guess is that I've moved roughly 25-30,000 yards so far this year. 1977 Ford F150, 8 ft Fisher, coffee, 3 hours or so, multiple passes and went out a couple of times yesterday during the day just to keep up with it. Can't really complain since the last few winters have been relatively dry.

    Can't really say that I hate it or love it. Just comes with the territory.

    Woodshermit, not sure how many times i've had to plow so far, I think less than you have.

    We really got off quite easy downeast, I figure 6" max and it was very light and easy to plow.

    I was using an 86 GMC 3/4ton but broke the transmission cable (to put it in and out of gear)

    Now using 91 Chevy 1/2ton. The 86 is ten times the truck for plowing when it is running right. Nothing that it won't push. The 91 has trouble finding snow it won't get stuck in.

    Of course the alternative is to maintain a stocked larder, get a good book or 2 and don't waste time fighting Mother Nature (she always wins through perseverance anyway). Keep a jeep handy for the occasional trip to see what's up in the world.

    stankemp, the main reason I plow is so that others can make it to my house.

    I have never had a snow that my little S-10 with BF Goodrich ATA's couldn't make it through.

    But, I have plowed each storm, if I didn't plow and let 2 or 3 storms build up, who knows? I would probably be stuck up here.

    Got snowed in (32") on my 1/2 mile drive way in '96. Truck stuck, tractor stuck, and me stuck with three generations of females. Got out five days later just in time to go back to work. Ever since, I keep good tires on truck, tractor chained and blade on in winter, atv gassed, and a pile of gravel for traction. Hasn't snowed over 8" since.

    Mango, have you had to replace any front end parts on your Dodge?
    My 97 2500 has had a lot of front end parts replaced. I attributed it to snow plowing. Needless, I think it's a good truck.

    It's really nice in Mesa Az today 0.00 snow in sight. Way better than the mountains of Idaho.
