    Surplus M2 ball ammo. If I handload, a 150 gr bullet and either 46.5 gr of IMR 4895 or 48 gr of 4064. BLC2 works ok too for blasting ammo but isn't as accurate for me.

    I've seen some Greek surplus and also Lake City. The prices seem pretty good. I do reload for 30-06 but my supplies have been based on my Rem 7600(IMR4350) with 165gr spbt. I think the 165 gr would be good but read the IMR4350 is too slow. I was looking to get some IMR4895 anyway

    I use the greek surplus, as Lake City is getting harder to come by. Be careful when handloading for the M1, slower burning powders can and have caused dangerous pressures resulting in blown up rifles. I prefer IMR4064 for handloading for my M1, the recipe stated in an earlier post is what I use as well.

    when using surplus ammo, be sure to check if its corrosive or not.....don't ask me how I know this [B)]

    The M-1 Garand was designed to use 30.06 SPRINGFIELD marked ammo w/spitzer type bullets ONLY.
    Use of commerial hunting ammo (not marked Springfield) w/heavier (generally round nosed) bullets and charges will damage the op rods and gas systems.
    You should also be carefull about using foriegn surplus ammo. Obviously because some of it is corrosive. But also because some of it is loaded hotter and intended for use in machine guns and will also damage an M-1.
    As great a battle rifle as the M-1 was, it is really a pretty fragile system that is easily damaged if the wrong 30.06 ammo is used.

    I LOVE LC ball ammo, although it's tough to find at reasonable prices. I got a really good deal on some a few days ago that made my day-heck, there was even a extra 5 "free" rounds included. It's cleaner than the Greek HXP stuff. HXP is loaded hotter as well. I shot a clip of HXP through my d-day commertive(sp?) and I had to ship it back to have the op rod replaced for free. Yes I know it's not a "real" garand but I really like it and I'm taking it deer hunting this fall. I've shot about 100 rounds of HXP through my GI garand without problems, although it's much more worn than my repro garand.

    Jonk, what kind of brass are you loading? LC or HXP? Just curious b/c after I shoot my LC I'm going to reload it.

    Really watch the ammo on gunbroker, there is some that are selling the corrosive stuff. But I will give him this he plainly states it in his description.

    I just bought some greek stuff already on the clip will get it monday and I got it off gunbroker at not a bad price.

    I've been looking at the Greek stuff on GB too. I hope my M1 is in on Tuesday. I'm wicked anxious!!
