Just like guns. buy what works for you. whey protein effects people differently. I see no harm in buying the cheap stuff though.

only thing i ever got out of higher priced protein was a case of the runs, nature made used to make a inexpensive version, it is an acquired taste, but nothing a few eggs, maybe a banana and some hershey's syrup couldn't take care of, all you need is cold milk and a blender

All Whey is NOT the same!

That being said yes you can get wallyworld stuff and it will work to a point but there are digestion/absorbtion issues. Now you can use places like the Protein Factory who will build a high quality mix for you but unless you are planning on going Pro .. well you are pretty much wasteing money. A really good all around Whey is Optimum Nutrition (On Whey) It's a good high quality whey. it is low fat and low carb. Ok now... it wont do you ANY good if you cant drink the stuff because its plain nasty so there again On Whey has some great flavors and it mixes well. I use the Extreme Milk Chocolate and I do 2 scoops ( 48 g protein 3xs a day) in about 1/2 cup water and down it just fine. I can also drink it on a bulk in milk and its great. Easily digested and not chalky like so many others. Now remember if you plan on drinking this on a daily basis to warn the people you live with, I dont know anyone that drinks Whey that does not get gas.
Oh a good... actually great place... to buy it is from Bodybuilding.com. There is also a TON of stuff there.. info and products if you are serious about lifting.

    Good luck with your goals!

One thing to remember....try several...taste is a very important feature...
You will find it hard to be dedicated to a product that doesn't taste good..especially when it comes to coughing up the klinkies!!
I personally like Soy products better...But I understand that they are a wee bit less effective... and even fewer like the taste, but I like it...
Also you can make you own products too, Soy or whey, fairly cheaply... this site is one of many out there...

tobe... Soy is good for women and moreso when going thru menopause, but soy products actually decrease the production of testosterone and increase the production of estrogen. Yes... you will get more protein in your system by adding any protein drink..... but please... please... please... do the research on the effect of soy products on men. I would NEVER suggest a man EVER useing a soy protein!

Hey... if you want to use it go ahead... but a man will get NOWHERE near the results useing soy as he will useing casein/whey/egg/rice/milk or plasma protein.... heck the best protein out there for muscle growth is plasma protein...

also although there wont be feminizeing effects anyone who knows anything about bodybuilding (and even most who dont) know that the production and/or injection of testosterone is what you want... I sure as hell am not takeing anything that would cause a decrease in testosterone (yes women have it too) or that would increase estrogen production.

If you want to throw your money away go for it... but Sav said he didnt want to waste his money and soy sure as hell is a waste if he wants to add muscle mass.

    This is from your links....

The latest studies into soy protein suggest it does not decrease testosterone and raise estrogen, as previously thought.

The first of these studies, presented at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Meeting, May 2004, and sponsored by the US National Dairy Council, found the post-workout consumption of isonitrogenous and isoenergetic soy drink to be statistically significant in hastening mass, fat-bone free mass (FBFM) and increases in strength, when compared to other post-workout formulations (skim milk and maltodextrin beverage), both of which had a similar degree of efficacy6.

This study demonstrated that intact proteins from both soy and milk protein are effective in supporting muscle hypertrophy, lending a degree of support to soy as a legitimate post-workout nutritional beverage.

Whey never did anything for me. I just stick to tuna and salmon for high protein/low fat.

I got some at Wal-Mart. Body Fortress brand. Been using it all week, I kinda like it. It's not the best tasting, but it goes down pretty easily.
