Postal Service Doesnt Ship Handguns ?

Thats what I was told at my local post office today :(

    USP does not ship handguns even to an FFL. FED EX does, the last one I shipped was almost $70.

    USPS will ship handguns from an FFL to an FFL. It takes a special form filled out every time.

    I've got several small towns with USP offices near me. Each one has it's own take on shipping firearms.
    However, I did finally get one USPS worker to show me the regulations on shipping firearms. There is a regulation stating only FFLs can ship handguns and only to another FFL after filing out a form. Anyone can ship a long gun to an FFL. All guns must be reported as such prior to shipping, and the employee can demand you open the box to assure it is unloaded.

    Just take an old book and hollow out the pages. Place the gun inside the book and ship it media mail. The rates are much cheaper.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

    I know of at least one post office that says a C&R is an FFK and so C&Rs can ship USPS. Not correct, but make for one cheap shipment.

    We can ship long guns in-state to another private individual via USPS.
    Don't try that in California!

    We are FFL's in New York and I ship all guns via USPS.. FIll out a form and its no big deal.

    when i shipped my Colt off to Colt FedEx put a buckle strap through the magazine well and out the ejector port. not sure why but guess it lets the people at Colt know its unloaded or anyone that opens the package.

    There are more felony gun related convictions from postal inspection then any other single violation. This would be enough for me to NEVER ship a handgun in a hollowed out book or any other illegal method through the USPS. Remember a convicted Felon can not ever legally own a fire-arm.[xx(] Your mileage may vary

    The law is that only an FFL dealer (not C&R collector) can mail a handgun.

    IME no postal employee knows the law and will tell you that NOBODY can mail any gun. Not true. Non-FFLs can mail long guns (to FFLs). But not handguns. If a postal clerk accepts a pistol from a non-FFL he doesn't know the law and is helping you break it.

    You people bragging about mailing handguns are admitting to a federal offense.

    According to my PO you just fill out the form once, they file it and you can ship FFL to FFL.

    Oh yeah, well I was on the grassy knoll, swiped Lindberghs kid, AND tore the consumer label off a pillow. Come and get me Copper! [;)][:o)]

    Fideau: givette here. I thought so, too. On the USPS handgun form there's a place for the destination addres. The address on the form must match the address on the package that is being mailed. After checking for accuracy/omissions, the clerk then postmarks the form. There's a space for the postmark, also. Along with the date/time of the mailing. Only then, does the postal clerk keep it on record.

    So, with all that info required on the form every time you [FFL] mail a handgun, the form must be completed every time you mail a handgun. Get a blank form online, and fill it out before you leave your gunshop. Best, Joe

    MANY postal employees do not know their own regs. Go to usps.com, and search firearm mailing. YES- Handguns can be mailed- from 01 FFL (Dealer) to 01 FFL, or from a Manufacturer to dealer. Us 03 C&R FFL folks CANNOT use the mail for a handgun (RATS!) But we CAN mail long guns. Yes, the form is to be supplied with each mailing. Believe it is USPS Form 1508. Notice of Prohibited Mailing. ALSO- No postal employee is permitted to give legal opinion on mailing of firearms- their regulations. And guys- don't say "I think..." when the regs can be pulled up for reading. This stuff is too serious to get someone into trouble.

    FYI: I used to hand-deliver my S&W's to 1200 Roosevelt Avenue to be worked on. Parked at the back of the main building. Don't know about now, but there used to be a service window. You rang the bell. One of the machinists came up and took your gun after you explained what you wanted done. If a safety/warranty issue, there was no charge. And they sent it back to your home address via UPS. They said that's the policy.
