You got a good deal, too. I don't like the .357 in a snubby, especially a scandium one. Too much power against too little counterweight. .38 Special in Titanium is a better balance IMO. 0 -

The biggest handgun I have ever owned is the 44 Magnum S&W and I freely admit that I am a recoil wimp and don't enjoy shooting it much. I bet I haven't put 300 rounds through it since 1986.
I can't imagine how anyone shoots those 460s and 500s.0 -

I don't have a picture of mine, but I have a S&W 686+ with a 6-inch barrel. Much like this one: 0 -
Here's my other two: S&W 686 Distinguished Combat in .357 Magnum, and S&W 629 Classic in .44 Magnum. Perceived recoil on these two is much lesser than it is on the 340 Airlite SC.

ECC, why not the 500?
It's my understanding that the 460 needs gains-twist rifling to reach it's potential, something I wouldn't think that cute lil' snubbie could offer...
Is recoil that much less with the 460? Or do you use it for 454, because one can't buy a 454 in a snubbie?

While I'm certain that the 2.75" .460 does not realize it's true potential ballistically, the .460 is the most extreme velocity revolver on the market...and this equates to better penetration. If you take a 2.75" 460 and put it next to a 2.75" 500, I believe the 460 is going to perform better. When it comes to Grizzly bears, penetration is of the utmost importance. A slightly smaller bullet traveling at higher velocities is going to penetrate better...IMO.
I also like the fact that I can shoot .454 Cassull and .45 Colt in it...as a matter of fact, light Colt loads are like shooting a .22 with this heavy revolver.0 -
Here's a Hand Cannon circa 1902! The 38-40 was considered a very formidable cartridge back then, somewhat the 357 Magnum of its day being a necked down 44-40 case which is basically a necked down 45 Colt case. The 38-40 is really a 40 caliber round and with a 180 grain bullet the 38-40 was and still is a pretty stiff round. From what I've read it was a highly favored round of peace officers of that period.

I'd post a pic of my "hand-cannon, but anybody can look up a 7.5" stainless SuperBlackhawk on the auction side. It's just not that uncommon.
Maybe if I replace that rubber Hogue monogrip with an extra-fancy wooden Hogue Monogrip, I'll post a pic. But that's a few guns on down the road0
