I think I need a new dryer. :(
Usually my monthly power bill is roughly $60. But the last two months it is around $90-$95. There have been no major changes in electrical usage. When the dryer is running the meter goes crazy. I have checked it for lint blockage and there was none.
I don't have the money but had planned on buying a front loading washer and dryer set later this or next year, but it may have to be sooner. If not, my electrical bill is gonna kill me.
When the bill was $60 I did at least 6 loads a week, now it is about 4 loads a week.

Clean your vent and duct out. Don't just wipe or shake it out but really clean it. If you have one of those flexible hoses, take it outside and run the water hose through it until no more lint comes out. Make sure it is dry before re-installing. Any restriction to the air flow will make the dryer take longer to dry the clothes, thus using more electricity.
Also, this is a big fire hazard, so do it now.
Edit: If it is heating and the drum is turning, you don't need a new dryer. Worse thing it could be is the timer.0 -
Also, if you haven't opened the dryer, it is as important to clean it out as it is to clean a chimney - you don't, you are inviting a fire... 0 -
forget the dryer, just hang them outside, this time of year they will smell WINTERY FRESH[:D][:o)] 0 -
i would pull the back, and check for a loose wire, they can ground out, even pull the heating element and check for burned out coils, {but don't touch it, the oils on your hand will ruin it}, if its bad their an easy cheap fix {of course unplug it first}
i had a lighter go through the vent, and land in the bottom of the dryer once, it over heated, and exploded burning several wires together, it did the same thing, and even heated while not running, i'm damn lucky i was home, i never run a dryer when we are not home anymore0 -

My grandma never owned a clothes dryer. She would hang bed sheets outside and let them freeze. That evening, she would bring them in and when they warmed up, they would be dry. Never could figure that one out.0
