question for ffl dealers
My local shop underwent an audit last week by ATF. The ATF agent told the dealer, who is also a gunsmith, that anytime he did anything to enhance or increase the value of a firearm, he would require a manufacturer's license. So that means if a customer comes in and has a scope mounted, he would need a manufacturer's license??? Mounting a scope enhances or increases the value of the firearm, right? Was the agent just blowing smoke up his butt or is this something new?

I have an account on GB, my friend who does not have a computer and is legally allowed to buy/own a gun asked me to bid on a rifle for him. he will give me the money which I will send to the seller. the rifle will be sent to my local ffl, we will both go together to get the rifle, he will have the background check done on him to complete the transfer. now, is this legal, or is this too much like a straw purchase? thanks 0 -
That is not a straw purchase at all. He is the one that is filling out the 4473 and having the NICS run on him, you are doing nothing more than brokering the deal for him to get the gun he wants. The true defaniton of a straw purchase is to purchase a firearm for a person who is not able to legally own one. 0
