Who Remembers Their "First Time" ??

Okay so for most of us it happened one summer after noon....but we had been thinking about it for years...years of eager anticipation....what would it be like ? What would it feel like ? Is it like they show in the movies ? We all know dad has done it before, but now its our turn. Finally. It was time for us to become a "man"...to SHOOT A GUN !!!

I was 11 and my dad bought me a .22 rifle. We drove out to the mountains and shot like 3 bricks, haha. I still love the smell of gun powder and I still have the gun.

    Most people start out with .22. However, I started with my dad's .45 1911. He was a boilermaker so was out of town for extended periods. When I was about 11-12, I got his .45 out and went behind our house and capped off a few rounds into a cinderblock. FMJ's went right through the block! I've been hooked on anything big bore ever since.

    I can't remember the first time. Seems like I've been shooting since my memories began. Dad gave me a BB gun at five and my first .22 at seven.

    I remember the first time, but not how old I was. Older than five, less than ten. Closer to five, I think. Bolt-action .22 rifle. We were out in the desert -- dad shook up a can of soda and let it heat in the sun for awhile, then put a bullet through it. The explosion wasn't for fun, but to impress on my brother and me how much damage even a .22 could do. It worked. I've had a couple of ADs, as has my dad, and I'm sure my brother -- but never with the muzzle pointed at anything WE DID NOT INTEND TO SHOOT!

    Not having kids of my own, I've made it my mission to corrupt other people's. Screwing up the future for liberals, one kid at a time....

    grandfather's 22lr with my dad and brother up at the old strip mine shooting cans. Probably about 12-13...loved it. Been hooked ever since.

    Springfield single shot .22, I was 5, older brothers, rifle. I thinks it's funny, have shot a lot of firearms since then, some I don't remember much about, but I still remember the first time.

    I was about 10, I guess. My grandfather let me shoot his old Winchester 37 in 16 gauge. It kicked the crap out of me. I was hooked. I still have that old gun.

    Accordingto some old pictures about 6 yrs old with aid from an uncle. Then about 12yrs old I shot several rounds through a .38 Special.

    Six year old. .22 H&R Hunter with 10 in. barrel. I have it still. I didn't get a BB rifle until I was 11. Got a 12 Ga.SS when I was 14. Never even shot my eye out.

    I was 6 and shot mother's winchester 22 ( dad did not hunt or shoot ) That year for Christmas I got my own Remington. Never did get a bb .

    For my 5th birthday I got my MOM's
    rolling block 22 single so on a cold
    day in March in 1945 I shot 2 box's
    of 22 shorts still shoot that same
    gun at least once a year on my
    birthday.

    1st time was on a friend ranch. He had some Bird in a nest right over the porch. Wanted to get rid of them so he let me shoot his .22. Well when it ran out I handed it back to him. He handed it back loaded so I could keep Firing. It did not dawn on me that he handed it back kind of fast and I did not notice he had handed be a 12 Ga Side by Side. Well I pulled both triggers at the same time.


    Still have problems with that shoulder to this day,

    Got a BB gun at about age 7 or 8. Shot a Remington nylon 66 at age 10. Got my own 22 at age 11.

    I have no idea. I can't remember a period in my life when I didn't shoot them. My dad was/is an avid hunter, and from my earliest memories we were out in the woods.

    Sadly, I think his hunting days are over now. He is in his late 70's and last year when he went up, I had to bring him out of the mountains after only four days. He still shoots on a regular basis though, and is still a damn good shot.

    5 years old, 22 winchester 67, had to rest it on the yard fence to shoot soup cans stuck on barbs on barbwire fence behind wood shed distance of about 25', I bet I shot 10,000 rounds off that fence over time .
    All the men who were there to get me started on this shooting/hunting adventure called my life are gone now.

    Thanks for having me to think back at a very enjoyable time of my life !

    Oh yeah, I put this on another thread this morning, too.
    I was 4, it was a Little Buckaroo I think. Maybe a chipmunk. I received my first gun when I was seven, a Ruger Single Six .22lr/mag. I also graduated to shooting some bigger stuff when I was 7. Namely, a S&W 629. I must have been 10-11 when I shot a TC Contender for the first time. It was a .44 mag as well. We were shooting some hot reloads out of it. It was winter and I was wearing gloves. When I fired, it slipped out of my hands because I couldn't get a good grip with the gloves. Nearly punched me in the eye. Dad was standing over my shoulder and kept it from breaking on the ground.

    It was in the fall of 1964 I was around 8 years old. I had received my first BB gun the Christmas before. My brother & I were squirrel hunting with my Father in the Sam Houston National Forest in East Texas. When we were finished my Dad let us shoot is old Stevens bolt action 22.

    I have been hooked every since.[:)]

    And for the other first it was Christmas 1973, and she told me she wanted to give me her Chhristmas gift...and I have been hooked every since![:D]

    I must have been around 5. Dad had a Walther .22 and a single shot bolt. It was a good day.

    We were out by the local dump shooting cans. There was one of those rectangular (4x5) /flat lighter fluid cans a few feet away. Dad would out one round in the mag and I would go through the drill of loading, firing, and ejecting the mag. I just couldn't hit that can. I handed it to my Dad who put a single round dead center. I walked over and kicked the can over and there was a HUGE scorpion underneath, almost as big as the can, with a single .22 hole right through the body.

    let's see, i must of been only about 7 years old. great great graddaddy and his wife settled new braunfels, here in texas, and my great uncle ervin used to let us all go camp out on the land for family reunions. there was always dove hunting, so i went this time!
    one of the fondest memories i have from my childhood.
    the land has since been sold off in pieces, to be made into newly developed neighborhoods, by distant cousins. the old house my grandmother grew up in will never be destroyed though. it has been recognized and protected by the state. :)

    oh btw, i guess that's when i became a "woman"! :)

    I was three(so I have been told), my dad took both my older brother and I out for the first time. With my dads help I shot a no-name italian .22 single action.
