Bass Pro, 13 mi. RT, and a bag of boiled p'nuts

WOOOHOOO! The long awaited Bass Pro shop just a few short miles from my house is having it's "Grand Opening" weekend...doors opened for a preview last Wednesday night with over 13,000 in the crowd. We decided to drive over after church today and check it out. The lines of traffic going into the facility had just about every sheriff and city police vehicle and personnel out in force. They were starting to park cars along feeder routes into the area, in bare dirt fields and just about anywhere they could do so. We opted to come back another day when the new has worn off. Heck, I might even take a week-day off from work to come check it out when all the rest are in school or otherwise engaged. On the way home, we did manage to find a fella sitting along side an intersection who was doing a fine job of marketing his HOT BOILED PEANUTS. Four bucks for a smallish ziploc bag of goodies. Prolly woulda spent much more at the BP. And there was no problem parking right next to the peanut man's trailer. [^]

    They really really blew it by not being open by Christmas as was the original plan. I wonder if someone lost their job over that gigantic mistake! The new Cabela's down there sure appreciated the extra Christmas business!

    Our BPS opened up a couple of years ago and I love it. Before they opened about the only place to get fishing gear was Dick's or WalMart. They have a decent fly fishing department too. I only go during the week and it's never crowded.

    Pretty cool place to visit. drove over there Saturday evening to buy my daughter a bow for her birfday. LOTS of cool pictures and antique displays. Prices suck. Same junk as Cabela's.

    When my store opened we had 27,000 walk through the doors in the first 4 hours. It was really crouded and many people said that you could not enjoy the store do to the crouds. Give it some time to calm down before you take it all in, and do all of your shooping on Monday or Tuesday during the day, then you can have one-on-one time with the associate.
