Good affordable rear end locker for 4x4's

What's a good affordable aftermaket rear end locker for a truck. It has the 14 bolt Corporate. It has to be able to disengage. So no Lincoln lockers. What's the cost to have one put end with labor?

    It has to be able to driven on the roads. It doesn't have to be the best off road, but the best it can be and still be on the roads. It's a full size Chevy also.

    Have you considered going with a limited slip rather than a locker. Air or electric lockers are pretty expensive. For a stock pickup, a limited slip diff should be more than enough.

    Are you wanting something better than the Eaton centrifical locker that comes as an option on the chevy truck (option G80)?

    Detroit for on-road, Lockrite for off-road mostly.
    If you ever use the truck in the snow, NEITHER!

    I have heard a lot of good things about Aussie lockers.

    They cost less than $250.00 each if interested.

    I have thought about getting a set for my Jeep XJ that we only use to trail ride with since I do not want to sink a lot of money into something that is thrashed through the woods.

    Forgot to hook ya up with them..

    Used a detroit locker for years, but it does not disengage. If you live in a Icey driving area smart Idea to get one that will disengage.

    Posi track uses clutches. The side gears are coupled to the carrier with a stack of clutches which limits the differences in speed between the two wheels.
    Lockers, Detriot being one, locks the planetaries together, causing both wheels to turn at the same speed. With lockers it doesn't matter which wheel has more traction like on posi. Lockers are like having a solid bar for an axle. If fact that's exactly what a Lincoln locker is. Both axle halfs welded together.

    I've got an Auburn LSD in the rear of my truck. Awesome rear locker.


    Got pulled over 2 weeks ago because the cop said I was burning out.

    If you take a turn and use the gas it will engage the locker and one wheel will go "chirp", "chirp", "chirp".......stupid cop.

    Have to coast thru every turn now unless I make sure the coast is clear.

    Traci,.a detroit locker sells for around 600.00 or less for your 14b..I have one in mine,they are the strongest locker around,stay away from electric or air [arb] they both require maint. as in air o-rings and lines that will leak and a compressor, and you can easily tear lines and electric wires loose out in the brush..it will handle and preform the same as it does now on dry roads,except for the chirping of the inside tire when you turn, ice and snow your trucks not going anywhere anyway with those swampers on it,off road you will go places in 2 wheel drive you couldn't go in 4 wheel before,..labor to install it will cost you more than the locker itself,look around locally for someone who can install a ring and pinion,ask them, its no different than popping in a new set of rr gears,..Randy's ring and pinion or 4 wheel parts will be the cheapest probably,..Loko [8D]

    +1 on Auburn gear. I put one in my first Camaro and it is a great posi unit. It has a little bit of chatter when turning (worse in a pickup with a light rear-end) but keeps your rear together when you need it.

    Go to www.jegs.com and take a look at the Powertrax locking differentals they do not require changing rearend set up like alot of other lockers do. They claim that no special tools are needed to put it in apparently it takes the place of your planetary gears. It is not a mini spool or a spool it sits inside of you carrier.

    I have personllay always used detroit lockers but they were the only rreal choice when I was playing around with my other trucks
