How many of you here are planning to grow corn this year?
I'm thinking about it and was just curious as is there really a 'best' tasting corn?
Does corn need male and female plants or is it present on a single stalk?
Lets just hope the corn does not cross with my fatalii peppers. [;)]

I'm growing garlic this year when today I saw that what apperaed to be the garlic head that appeared to be growing above ground. I know there are some types like this; however a good part of my garlic all came from the same head(s). None of the other stocks are like this yet.
There was a wind storm [of sorts] that came by about a week ago and boke most of the stocks at the ground level. That did not seem to kill the plants as they seem to be doing fine.
My question is this just a fluke; or did I actually plant cloves of garlic that are of a different species than listed [so far only this plant is like this]? Pics are below for the said question:

I tried growing some boiled peanuts here in Georgia a while back,,,, just didn't come up. Ole Jimmy, he lives down the road from me, now he's the one you should be asking about peanuts. But I doubt very seriously if he's a member of this forum. To answer your question, My uncle grew peanuts when I was a kid,,all I can remember is when they pulled them. The peanuts grow in the ground, not on trees like my wife thinks. But she's from Long Island, NY. And if I'm not incorrect, they must be grown in a loamy/sandy type soil. Legumes, which includes soy beans fix nitrogen in the soil. I don't know if peanuts are legumes or if they fix nitrogen. 0 -

I hate when that happens! I have had the same problems growing ammunition, it just won't germinate.0 -

Yeah, they are legumes. The plants get about 36" across. SOME peanuts will form directly on the roots beneath the center of the plant. However, MOST of the peanuts will form from "pegging down"- where the branches put down rootlets that form peanuts. Wait until JUST before frost, use a spading fork, loosen soil all around plant, flip whole thing over, let sun dry on inverted plant for a few days, then pick off and let shells dry well indoors (spread mine on recycled window screens) Roast them in shell 325 degrees for 25 minutes. I use a little nitrogen fixing bacteria booster (black dust you roll the seeds in) Need VERY light/sandy soil for these to do well. If you brew, ya gotta try raising some peanuts to go with the beer. 0 -
