    NAFTA was bungeled from the start. The fact that we have a $1 trillion trade imballance with China shows that NAFTA was not being utilized correctly. What is the purpose of a free trade agreement with Mexico if we are buying inexpensive consumer goods from China? Low cost labor in Mexico is ideal for US based firms to set up production facilities to assemble goods bound for the USA. Instead we ended up buying new production items from China, which has no direct benefit for US investers since Chinese markets are closed. Properly utilized NAFTA has the ability to put the United States smack in the middle of the worlds most powerful trading partnership, Canada with a small population and massive natural resources while Mexico has a huge pool of eager low cost workers who'd jump at the chance to work for a US/multi national firm. A North American trade bloc would be the most powerful economic force on this planet, making the European Union little more than a side show.

    The hundreds of billions of dollars that we have given to China for the trinkets that we pruchase from them has biten us in the a$$. This is the money that the Chinses are using to compete with us for crude oil on the world market and driving up the price. They don't care what petroleum costs because they can just send over another dozen container ships loaded with dolls and cheap toys to the USA to pay for their oil. Most developing nations have been priced out of the oil market due to the high cost of crude, but China has the resources (thanks to USA consumers) to bid with us dollar for dollar in order to get the petroleum she craves.

    I don't know, pretty soon we might be able to get some good real estate deals down in olde mehico.

    Wasn't this inacted during the Clinton administration? Something to think about at election time.
