Mail-In Rebates

Do you have good luck with mail-in rebates?

I try my hardest to read the instructions and do exactly as they say. I sent in about 5 rebates for tools months ago and have seen nothing. I sent in two less than a month ago and got emails that they are being processed.

I would say only about 50% or less of any mail-in rebate gets me any money back.

Do you have better luck?

    No. I think a lot rebate requests get filed in the circular file the moment they're received.

    I think I get them all back but by the time they arrive I forget what they are for. It's like found money than.

    You can get your money but it is a hassle. Do all the stuff they tell you, and save copies of everything.
    When they are a few weeks late with your money, notify them that they have seven days to pay up, or you will send their entire file to the state attorney general.
    This has worked for me, but such a pain, I just try to avoid rebates.

    I've had pretty good luck with them. The only one I got stiffed on was a free butane cigarette lighter. I think I've received all of the cash rebates.

    i bought a new cell phone in oct and had to wait til jan before i received my rebate--but it was for $50 so i didn't want to let it slide.

    A few years back I had a $75.00 mail in rebate from XM radio. It took eight or nine months to get it, I had totally forgotten about it.

    But yeah, anytime I see something with a mail in rebate, I price the item as if I will never see that money.

    I send out the rebates in the kid's names. than 6 months or so later the kids get a little check in the mail, and they think they hit the lotto.

    I have received all that I have applied for, except one.
    Thought that was pretty good odds.

    I do well with them.

    I take each of the instructions and place a check mark by them. If I am to include UPC numbers, receipts, etc. and if the instructions say something like:

    1. Attach UPC
    2. Attach Receipt
    3. Circle item

    I'll write a #1 by the UPC, a #2 on the top of the receipt, and after I've circled the item, I'll write #3 by it.

    I go out of my way to show them that I can follow directions.

    The only time that I had a problem was at Home Depot when I purchased paint. We were looking for inexpensive paint since we knew that the repairs weren't going to last (long story, but we hate our house and hate our builder). We found the paint we wanted, and the salesperson talked us into Glidden which was a lot more expensive but wound up being cheaper with the rebate. We purchased the Glidden. After three months, I called Glidden and they said we purchased the wrong Glidden for the rebate. I went into Home Depot, explained the situation, and they apologized and refunded me the difference.
