BUYERS AND NEGLIGENCE!!

Since someone seems bent on downing sellers, here's one for you:

Just today I had someone win an auction, and I immediately try sending
them their end of auction invoice. Guess what...their email is NOT
valid and it bounces back to me.

I figure, ok, maybe i sent it incorrectly, and try again. Once again
It bounces back. How hard is it to keep your contact information up
to date...?

Speaking of keeping contact information up to date:

I've had several buyers pay throgh paypal, and to be covered against
fraud we must ship to the address on record for paypal. I ship to
the address they have on record at paypal, and a couple weeks later
the buyer is calling or emailing wondering where their knife is.

I look up the shipping info, etc., tell them when and how it was
shipped. Then they have the gall to say "WHERE'D YOU GET THAAAT
ADDRESS, I HAVENT LIVED THERE FOR OVER A YEAR!!"

I feel like saying "well, i hired a private investigator to look up
where you used to live, and sent the knife there".LOL[:0]

Oh, let's not forget the one i had on GB here in Dec. that claimed
someone else used his account, but he'd still buy the custom knife
if i'd sell it to him at sub walmart prices.

The list goes on..let's hear your's.[:)]

    I'm sure we've all had the winning bidder who typed in his username, password and bid amount, all by mistake.
    Had one 1st timer from Fla. (I'm in Okla.) who didn't want to send the money because "How do I know you will send the item?"
    Told him "HELLO. Did you have ANY understanding of how these auctions work BEFORE you bid? Feel free to come pick it up. But I'm sure as hell not going to bring it to you."
    Another trashed my feedback by claiming that the Ruger SA grips I sent had been broken and glued back together. Which they had not. None the less I asked him why, if he was dissatisfied, he didn't contact me 1st. I have more grips and would've either exchanged or refunded his money. He then withdrew the bad feedback and KEPT the grips.

    I think some buyers think that a given seller only has one item up for sale. I guess since he only looked at one item from that seller, that must be all, right?

    Phone call, "I got a question about that gun you have on Gunbroker."

    (Which gun?)

    "The Marlin."

    (OK, now which Marlin?)

    And so on.


    At the end of an auction, I send out a copy and paste email with the item number, item description, price, shipping, and tax, if applicable. In that email, and in my item description in the auction, I state that the buyer must send the printed out email from Gunbroker notifying him that he won the auction. If the buyer has no printer, I suggest that he write out the auction number and item description on a piece of paper and send it with his payment. I don't accept Paypal or credit cards, and I make that clear, too.

    So, now I get an envelope in the mail. In it is a check or money order. No auction number. No item description. The name on it is markedly different from the buyer's user name.

    If I have the item description, I can go right to it and ship immediately. If I have only the auction number, now I have to fire up my computer and search my closed auctions for that number. If I have neither, now I have to look for something, the selling price of which coincides with the amount on the check.

    Most buyers do follow instructions. Some don't.

    My buddy down the road has a stack of checks and money orders, and no idea what they are for. He runs enough auctions that he simply does not have time to do as I have outlined above. Sometimes, the buyer calls wondering where his item is, and other times, my friend never hears from him. After two weeks, his unclaimed auction items are relisted and resold. Sort of a bonus, I reckon.

    No walmart don't sell custom knives, but he wanted me to take
    the same amount that he can go to WM and buy a factory knife for...
    but "he didn't bid on it, someone else used his computer".mm hmmm
