.357SIG OR .40S&W?

If you had the choice between the two, which would you use for ccw?

    i just converted my Glock 23 to .357Sig with a bbl from storm lake. i prefer the high velocities of the 357

    The .357 SIG is hard to beat...ballistics wise. I carry a .357 SIG. The wife carries a .40 S&W.

    .40, no brainer.

    Bigger hole, cheaper ammo.

    I don't really see any realistic CCW scenario where the flatter trajectory of the 357 is likely to come into play, nor where I might need extra penetration (eg to shoot through windshields or such). Its not like .40 is so deficient in penetration.

    If I wanted to hunt with this round, or were a cop or soldier and had to shoot at distances outdoors, my answer would be different, but that wasn't the question.

    Also, the hottest 9mm lugers aren't that much weaker than .357 Sig (1350 fps for 9mm vs 1450 for 357 for 124 gn bullets), and you can always use cheapo 9mm for practice.

    I am not law enforcement, just a regular joe with a ccw permit. I have been carrying a Sig P226. I have both barrels and was just looking for some opinions on which barrel I should be using the .40 or .357sig.

    I prefer the .40. I carry an xd40sc. I like it because it theoretically makes a bigger hole. And I bought the 40 instead of .45 because at that time, SA had not yet made the xd45.

    .357 magnum-Yes, I'd carry that all the time, but it's hard to find a t-shirt that'll hide my 6 inch GP100. I do carry it occasionally under a long coat.

    I have one of each (Glock 22 and Glock 31). Shooting 2x4 blocks, metal targets, jugs filled with water, I can't see much difference. 40S&W ammo is a little cheaper.

    I prefer the .40 S&W over the .357 Sig, ammo is less expensive and easyer to find

    I'd think I would go with the 357 SIG but for a different reason than posted above. Shape of the cartridge makes for more reliable feeding. I want my personal protection firearm to go bang every time I pull the trigger. Want to minimize any possibility of a jam. Power wise, not enough of a difference to make a real big deal over.

    I'd take the 40 for the same reasons others have stated. Overpenetration and cost of ammo being the main reasons.

    I would pick the 40 caliber over 357 for ccw because of the larger diameter. Nothing wrong with 357, I just like the larger caliber for defense. I actually carry 45 acp myself.
