Response to earlier post re. there's more commercial sales than auctions on E-bay..

there's three tabs on page one marked as auctions/sellers/both of them. Just hit the 'auctions' tab. Voila! you now have 100% auctions! Joe

This is a response to some ebay sellers that blatently say in their ads that you will receive the same feedback that you give us.(no matter how quickly you pay) It looks like they will allow you to remove deadbeat bidders bad feedback if you get it. I"ll boycott them though, everytime they make a new rule they screw it up more and more.

Is this a national boycott or just something you want to do? If it's just this group,it will have very little to zero effect to eBay.

I sympathize with you idsman75, My paypal was also hacked back in October 07,,,first weekend of deer season. I didn't see the fraudulent charges until they were about three days old. You can't get anything done by telephonically communicating with paypal because most of their telephone clerks speak a broken type of english that I don't understand. I called them when I realized the fraudulent charges but I really got the impression that I had called a 7-11 or some motel. I was told that the card was used on the internet in California, (I live in Georgia). I was quized about being in California on the purchase dates. I saw where that was going so I simply hung up the phone and proceded to my bank. I cut them off at the knees. I told my banking institution to dishonor ANYTHING!!! coming from paypal. They have done that and paypal is very pissed off at me that they can't access my bank account anymore. Check this out: http://www.aboutpaypal.org/quote:Originally posted by idsman75
My PayPal account got hacked (probably by a disgruntled employee) a few months ago. No, I didn't respond to all of those PayPal phishing emails that are easily recognizable. I got my money back within 48 hours from my bank after I reported the fraud. Then PayPal credited my bank account a couple months later when their investigation was complete and the bank got their money back.

Consequently, PayPal and Ebay (who owns PayPal) want me to fill out some long-winded document and provide copies of multiple forms of ID to prove who I am before they'll let me back into my PayPal and Ebay accounts. Well, needless to say, my accounts can't be accessed by ANYONE until I do this. Too bad for Ebay and PayPal. I'll never be using their services again. They couldn't guarantee me the security of their services so why the heck would I give them copies of my identification? Screw that. Let em suffer.

Good Luck with the boycott - I will support it by not even looking at the EB items.

I quit on buying from them after a bogus seller put me in a bind where I lost my initial money then had to buy local retail to complete a project costing me and putting me in a hole - I took the hit & made all the work good - it was a moderate loss to me and I worked for nothing but my customer was happy with everything and I chalked it up to experience - I won't buy from anyone there again.

Sadly a similar event has occurred again, this month - and it happened this time with a GB item - we have a gunshow coming up this weekend at Lamar-Dixon and I'm hoping to buy the item there that I thought I had bought on GB - otherwise I guess I'll buy it locally at retail - considering the retail price I will likely pay plus the loss sustained re the bogus sale, these part-time "hobby" projects are becoming prohibitvely expensive - I doubt I'll be buying anymore GB items soon.

Unless GB, EB, AA or any other site steps up and holds the sellers to some real responsibility this on-line market will no longer resemble the meetingplace/marketplace that it once was - I remember the difficulty I had trying to make my wife believe that it was okay to send some stranger eight states away several hundred dollars and expect that a few days later the shotgun or whatever would arrive as promised - and so it was okay. Today I am ashamed of the situation to the point that I probably won't ever tell her of the difficulties I've encountered lately - actually, she never did really believe the system was trustworthy what with the seller calling all the shots and being able to ship anything without feeling any pressure from the site to hold him to his word. I can't bear to hear her say "I told you so!" one more time.

Addendum: A recent communication from GB Admin has me somewhat encouraged.

It's one of the reasons why I've moved most of my money to new accounts that have never been associated with Pay Pal and have never been used in an online transaction. Fortunately, I caught it within 6 hours of the offense and there's a law somewhere on the books that requires a bank to put the money back into your account as a loan against the results of the fraud claim. My bank had my money back to me within 48 hours and they had to wait to get their meney back from PayPal. I think, if I remember correctly, my incident occurred in October 07 as well.

I did some investigating on my own and discovered that the guy who did it was located in Europe (can't remember the country) and went through some UK-based online gaming company owned by a Japanese company in order to purchase massive quantities of "virtual gold" that his online gaming character could spend is his virtual world. Leave it to a gamer geek to spend real hard cash to buy virtual cash.

Guys listen up. I've been selling various items extensively on eBay since 2003, so I have alot of experience with what they've done, what they're doing, and what they intend to do. And believe me, ever since I started, all they have done is piss sellers the hell off by constantly raises fees and making changes for the worse. The bottom line is... meg whitman is a POS, and so is bill cobb. They want to be like the waltons.

Now, I'll admit I don't like bill gates because in a way he is controlling the world. Sure, 3rd world underdeveloped countries don't rely on computers to function. But as for the modern world, unless you are working on mainframes or proprietary systems, over 95% of the commercial PC market still belongs to microsoft... and what they want to do with it. However, bill gates ain't the greedy, selfish, POS the waltons or eBay CEO's are. He's given over 33% of his wealth to charitable causes.

Yes, I do hate the people who run and make decisions about eBay. HOWEVER, I am somewhat dependant on eBay for a certain amount of income. The problem is... handsdown, we don't have anywhere else to go. There's absolutely no other way we can get global exposure for all kinds of items on such a massive scale.

People look for anything and everything on eBay... though that list of allowed items is growing smaller and smaller. And people look from all across the world. If you open a local retail store, you are mainly catering to the city where you are based - with the hope there is sufficient demand in the area. Most of us don't have the resources to spend 10, or $25,000 on a printing press to produce thousands of catalogues and come up with the money for postage to mail them to potential customers.

If you go to google looking for an item, you get millions of links that pop up, some of which aren't even related to what you are looking for. On eBay, you can find a list of very specific items all in one place... usually with a clear item of who you are buying from.

Yeah, I hope eBay gets shut down one day and meg whitman winds up in jail... but only if there is an alternative that allows us to do what we were doing before, without the idiotic management making stupid decisions and ridiculous fees. Until then we have no choice but to put up with them [:(] Good thing for me my e-mail address on GB isn't the one attached to my eBay account.

I believe GB may possibly have the resources (and knowhow) to pull it
    off..[?]

there are other places to go. but like using windows, everybody uses the "default choice" so the others don't get used, and when they're not used, they're not valuable. it's not to your advantage to use them.

the nearest competitor to ebay does about 1/2 the volume. that's a colossal feat in itself, but now you got a stereo you want to sell, which one will get your item under the noses of more shoppers?

    you take it to ebay.

yes I agree 100% they treat buyers and sellers like maggots. they need one hell of a wakeup call. but how is that going to happen?

it's not going to happen, they know it, and you get what we got here.

I think the next closest one was bidville.com or ecrater.com
