Has anyone used this befor and is it easy to do?
Just bought some to do my pistol. Hope it will come out ok.

    Has anyone ever applied this themselves?

    I am wanting to color match the aluminum freefloat handguard on my Bushmaster Predator to the Magpul Flat Dark Earth PRS stock I just installed.

    I just cant seem to find any spray matte color that matches or closely matches that color.

    Well I just tried some of this and have some questions.

    I used a can of Dura Bake on some mags and a 10/22 receiver. The finish was a little duller then I had hoped, but the finish is very very hard and paint like.

    I just tried some Duracoat yesterday and I am not sure about it. It was very easy to apply apply with an airbrush. It went on very smooth, has a great color. The finish seems more like a coating then a paint which is fine with me. The problem I am having is that I can scrape it off with my thumb nail [V].

    I sprayed a shotgun BBL for buddy and had some mags laying there that needed finished too so I used the extra paint on them. I have the bbl up and have not touched it but was messing with the mags as they would be easy to fix. It has been 24hrs since I did the finsh, am I not waiting long enough?

    On all the parts I used a wire wheel on the Dremel and some CLP to remove the old finish and rough things up a bit. On a couple of the mags I used some 240 grit sand paper to get off rust spots (Sten mags). I then cleaned, then degreased all the parts.

    Any idea why the finish would come off?

    How do remove duracoat? Is it easy to do.

    I'd still bake it for superior hardness. Also very, very important is that the wire wheel dremel brush is regular steel and not stainless. That will keep stuff from sticking.

    Don't you have to apply heat to cure the Dura Bake?
    I'm too lazy to look it up myself right now.

    I bought from Midway. I have my C&R there so it is "dealer" pricing.

    I posted this on another forum too and one of the vendors that uses a lot of this stuff says min 24 to harden, then several days to fully set up. I just need to be more patient I guess, but it is hard. This is different then the bake stuff, but I like the finish better. Not much in the way of instructions come with this.

    "In as little as 15 minutes, you can apply this extremely durable oven-cured enamel. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, spray your firearm or parts, place in the oven and 15 minutes later you have the finished product."

    For Dura Bake yes you cure it in the oven. That is the stuff I had good luck with. I guess with Duracoat you CAN bake it but is not required. The BBL I just painted is too big to fit in the oven so that will not work too well.

    Did you put the clear finish coat on?
    Let it cure for a week or so.You will
    not be able to scratch it off
    with your finger nail.

    Dura Coat needs 2-3 wks. to reach maximum hardness even though you can use it in 24 hrs., be careful. Don't try scratching it yet. After several wks. you will find you can't.
