This has nothing to do with guns,It's about dogs.

I have a small dog, with huge ears, that stand strait up. She lives indoors and only goes outside to PP or Poop. I take her for 2, 1/2 mile walks EVERY day. About once or twice a month, she will begin to dig at her right ear.ONLY EVER the right ear. All i can ever see in there is redness from her digging. No dirt,wax,bugs,sand ,,,nothing but irritated skin from her digging. The vet gave/SOLD my wife some ointment,in a tube, with a long tip on it. WEll, it has somehow gotten LOST (all my fault)even though i was never allowed to apply said ointment .
What i want to ask y'all who own dogs is. Is their anything wrong with putting a few drops of Isopropyl/rubbing alcohol, or Hydrogen Peroxide in the dogs ear, and rubbing it for a few seconds? Then letting her shake it out?

My parents treated my "swimmer-ear" like that for my entire childhood.Think it'd hurt the dog?

    should be ok--also dogs can get those pesky foxtails in their ears and it can work its way deep down in the ear canal and you cannot see it but it will give the dog pain.

    My youngest daughter is studying to be a veterinarian and she says NO! You can't just "shake" liquids out of a dogs ears because unlike humans, a dogs ear canal bends about 90 degrees while ours is more or less straight. Hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol are far too harsh for sensitive canine ears. Make the consultation check payable to my daughter Olivia.

    I would not use either,
    You can get dog ear care products at any good pet supply, I use a ear cleaner in Daiseys ears with every bath. I keep them clean, and it keeps problems away.

    Dog ears and human ears are not remotely similar.
    Bad idea! Go to the vet, pay the dough, hope for the best.

    I'd recommend using whatever the vet gave you, even if it means having to purchase more of it.

    Thanks for the "heads-up" y'all. Wifey will just have to go buy more ear stuff, and NOT loose it!!![:(!]

    If your ear was raw and irritated would you pour rubbibg alchohol in it? If not why would you do it to your dog???

    dont use alcohol or peroxide.
    first smell your dogs ears, if it smells foul ear infection.
    my vet told me dont use anything we use on ourselfs on our pets

    Looks like it's gonna be white vinegar on a q-tip...

    It finally cleared up after going through the anti-inflamatories

    We never did figure out what it was, but the best guess was that something had became lodged in the ear canal and became trapped when the tissue got inflamed. Once the swelling went down, she shook it out....we think

    In any event, the ear is fine now.

    I've had two dogs who were plagued with ear infections. I always used the stuff the Vet sold me, but he (the Vet) told me a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water would work just as good.

    sorry to get off topic, but here's an interesting fact. If a dog licks up even a few drops of peroxide they vomit, weirdest thing.

    try baby oil.if the cause is ear mites,it'll suffocate them.if not it will still soothe the ear.

    Dogs can get yeast infections in their ears, go figure. That is what was bothering my Lab a few years ago. Got a toob of the ointment and after about 3 applications, no mo problem.
