Ques. to Oldtimers on herb
Several years ago i was visiting a home in Appalachia in Southwestern Virginia.I remember having a cold and not feeling well.An Oldtimer went to a closet and retrieved a bag with a dried root in it.He said to try a bite.I chewed on a piece and started to notice my heart rate going up and my head started to clear up.Sort of a slight high.This Oldtimer has passed away now.He called it yellow something,yellow root maybe? Grows wild down there.

Knew a gal who made a good bit of change selling goldenseal powder to coalbucket drivers on the Ky/Wv border several years ago. The story was that it would mask the mandatory drug test. They evidently didn't know that it was available at any GNC store. If they had known it was the old time "yellowroot" they would have dug it themselves.
My question is ...How did grandpa pulverize those tiny super hard roots?
