ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFO

hey there you all im going to be starting a course in medical billing and medical coding.kinda nervous about it all i have and still am driving truck for the past 25 years looking for a change.any info on this course would be nice.....PS wish me luck haven't been in school for 26 years

    talk about a change of direction. I wish you well in your endevor, but wonder, can you go from being pretty much your own boss to sitting at a typewriter/ computer terminal, and having the phone ringing all the time with people asking wheres the paper work, ah heck maybe it's not that big a deal.

    Have you given them any money yet, or signed anything? What you are talking about may be perfectly legitimate, but be very careful. Medical Billing Scams are one of the big ones now. Clark Howard says there are forty-some scams for every legitimate one.

    From Clark Howard's website:

    Clark gets lots of calls from people who would like to work from home because of their schedules and current situations. The problem is that people often get taken by work-at-home scams when they are in that situation. The good news is that the Federal Trade Commission has formed a multi-agency task force that plans to track down these criminal outfits and prosecute them. The FTC is working with the Justice Department and the Postal Service to go after 200 of these companies. The scams include envelope stuffing, refrigerator magnet sales, Web design, medical billing and vending machine businesses. Some people have been taken for $5,000 or more. But even if it's a small amount - like $50 - don't believe these scams. Any time someone asks for money up front to start a business, it's a scam. Check out more at "http://www.ftc.gov".

    If you saw it on tv or in the back of a magazine, you may be getting ripped off. Try Google on the course you're taking.

    I expect most if not all the courses at vocational schools and community colleges are legitimate. It's a shame you have to be so careful about everything you do these days.

    I am deputydog214's wife. I have my BS in health information management and am a corporate coding manager for a two hospital system in KC. My first thoughts are really words of encouragement. It is a great field and has an abundance of opportunity. With that said, there are many, many schools that aren't reputable and end up leaving a lot of students with a huge amount of debt and a degree or certificate that doesn't fit the needs of many healthcare organizations. They are there to take advantage of students who have heard it is a great field. Just make sure you have done your homework regarding your school.     a Friend of mine got caught up on one of the medical billing scams... Now he is a successful Bill Collector (a booming field with many bonus opportunities)[:)]
