'My Baby Daddy Was Shot' In Struggle With Police

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- College Park police say a man has been shot to death after a struggle with an officer.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office identifies the man killed as Antoine Cantrell.
Police Chief Gary Yandura says officers responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. Thursday about a 28-year-old man who was causing a disturbance.
He says officers spotted the suspect about 20 minutes later and an officer chased the man into woods near a recreation center.
The chief released a statement saying the man began struggling with the officer over his gun and the officer's gun discharged, killing the suspect. The chief says two other College Park officers were in the immediate area at the time.
"My baby-daddy, Antoine Cantrell, was shot," Canrell's girlfriend, Trellis Varner told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter Amanda Rosseter. "We just want to know why, cause they're not telling us nothing. They're not telling us why, what happened, why they shoot him, cause he don't carry no gun. He's not that type of person. All he did was run." [[Riiiiiiiiiight]]
Cantrell's family members said he always ran from College Park police.
"It's an ongoing thing between him and the College Park Police Department," said Canrell's brother, Ainsley Jackson. "Everytime they catch him, they jump on him."
"The suspect had an extensive record within our department," said the College Park police chief in a statement he gave to WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News.
Fulton County Jail records show Forest Park police arrested Cantrell in October on drug and trespass charges.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting College Park police in the investigation into the shooting.

this speak volumes as to WHY!!!

Well as we ALL KNOW, the media only prints the truth!! And in this case, the killing of the english language is, to me, more disheartening than the killing of a career criminal. IMHO.0 -
Agreed, but isn't a direct quote in this case politically incorrect? I applaud them for it. 0 -
My goodness! What a turnaround from the tone of another thread about police treatment of a prisoner!
At least they only killed this guy; didn't try to strip his clothing off.
Could the difference in attitude have something to do with the race and gender of the subjects?0 -

Race and gender are not factors, but the situation is totally different. In this case, you have a career criminal, who, according to his own brother, has a history of running or fighting with police. In this case, the perp fought an officer over his weapon and was killed by "accidental discharge". Maybe my own experiences have made me alittle prejudice towards those who would fight the police, not their race. This guy just happened to be black, and statistics show the black race to be more prone to violence towards the police. The black male makes up less than %20 of the U.S population, but %80 of the prison/jail population. Numbers don't lie. While I can sympathize with the guy's family, I have none for him.0 -

This should be a video of this story. I don't know I can't watch videos.
If it is naked cheerleaders, sorry, I didn't know any better.

First off sorry for the massive post - I just am furious at the slow erosion of the liberties we enjoy in this country including that of the right to bear arms.
Words cannot express the mob mentality contained in the media's, the poster's , and some of the contributors'(chris8161,gbegrow,jwpwolf,pickenup, and more sheep) representations of this tragic event. I can't help but wonder what kind of closed minded person would pass judgement so quickly on the victim of this tragic shooting while simultaneously abdicating the officer(s) responsible for his death. I can't blame the media for that, people should know to do their homework. To the more intelligent of you reading this - ask yourselves why a police officer would claim to accidentally shoot someone struggling with him for his weapon. Is it not obvious that he would have shot him intentionally in self-defense? My finger would have been itching to pull the trigger if you try to take away my gun from me and I know you're potentially dangerous. Why no witnesses in such a densely populated area? This man was killed because as the police chief stated, he was an irritant to the local police department in a housing project no one wants to police anyway.
The spin that the chief and the spoon-feeding-you media utilized portray him as a constant criminal, but the chief himself said the guy only had a record "WITHIN THEIR DEPARTMENT." Contacts within the community who have little connection but knew the man told me he was an obnoxious and loud-mouthed character -especially towards the police. Besides this, he allegedly stayed out of serious trouble. A criminal background check would probably be in order, but I think its disgusting people take the media at face value when uneducated and undesirables are being incarcerated and murdered for trifles and technicalities. Hey, maybe you agree that they should, but I have a moral compass and these people are still human. My sympathy goes out to the man's family, especially his children. This should be a warning to all those who think they can live uneducated and not be subjected to a police state where undesirables are "taken care of." It is also a lesson to everyone to educate others before the day comes when you can also be targeted by government as a freethinking member of a downward spiraling society which percieves gunbroker.com as a threat. Exactly how many of you are voting for Hillary anyway?
Anyway, pertaining to WARTIGER, common sense should tell you this is not a race thing even though you want to make it one by spewing statistics as science in and of itself. The cop most likely was black, and if not, his colleagues and peers most definitely are. Your signature is a fundamental truth to me. Yet you have accepted statistics of blacks being more frequently incarcerated as an excuse for this man's "accidental" death. The irony that guns are not permitted in public housing projects and your signature says it all. You really aren't that bright, or your just kissing the masses asses like the true underlying liberal you just might be.
Finally, just to rant a little more, want to illustrate the level of hypocrisy present in Atlanta-area police culture. Less that a month before this shooting, two off-duty officers shot each other after one confronted the other after being waved down by a passer-by over a domestic dispute. The officer culpable was charged with aggravated assault instead of "on a police officer" or perhaps "attempted murder." Just before this two cops were mysteriously "assasinated" with the perpetrators turning themselves in. A few years ago, a sheriff promising to clean up the corruption in the police for was assassinated by police goons(who walked) of Sidney Dorsey(serving life) while bringing roses home to his wife Christmas Day. He had just been elected over Dorsey the present sheriff.
The senselessness has to stop, and it begins when people stop condemning victims and accept responsibility for the monsters we have created, whether in government or the "pueblos."0 -
Yes- but is she sure he was the father? Should get on Springer to find out. 0 -
You're certainly entitled to you opinion "Mr. Liberties" but I disagree with your perspective (and being called a "sheep" as well). You see, a man my age has seen and experienced many things and what I see is reality. Maybe fresh out of college I might of had a different opinion but time has hardened me and in my opinion made me more wise. We live in a world full of degenerate bottom feeders and I have no tolerance for individuals as such. I have no sympathy for any "Thugs' or "Ghetto" type individuals in my world and one less bottom feeder on this planet brings a smile to my face. Did you take the time to watch the video at the provided link? Take the time if you have not and if your heart bleeds for the young lady (do I dare say lady) who can barely speak English then you are a much different person then I.
Also, I mentioned NOTHING about "race". I only added a comment of "riiiiiiight" after the poor young ladies (gag) quote. Seems your the one that is taking on the stereotype attitude that you accuse I and some others of. Bottom feeders come in all colors my friend.
And as for your comments about police corruption, of course any idiot knows that all police are not corruption free but you try doing what the police do on a daily basis. Generally, you spend most of the time dealing with the aforementioned bottom feeders and after awhile I'm sure they grow very weary of it. Most intelligent individuals know that when approached by an officer of the law that regardless of the situation you'd better exhibit some respect. You give respect, you get respect. If you mouth off or run off into the woods then you've just opened yourself up to a whole different situation/outcome. So spare me your dissertation of why we should feel sorry for the deceased degenerate bottom feeder. I say give the officer a medal for exterminating another individual who is the real strain on the "liberties" that you refer too.
Carry on with you boo hoo fest mister man of morality. By the way, welcome to the Gunbroker forums.

Maybe he told the truth??? Maybe not, who appointed you judge of the LEO?? I don't like that the plausibility of your argument exists, but your reaction is the same as others that you condemn, in the name of the moral high ground. Doesn't make it so. Just your opinion.
quote:Exactly how many of you are voting for Hillary anyway?
As if voting for any of the three frontrunners would any difference whatsoever? And you are calling everyone else here uneducated. Ummmm, ok[8)]
quote:like the true underlying liberal you just might be.
When I started reading this, I thought you were a liberal.
Your arguments are quite valid, but to classify a certain group as victims is an oversimplification, to say the least. And that doesn't negate some of the logic on the other side of the argument either.
I am all for putting everybody back in their rightful place (regarding politicians, out of control LEO). Just how do you do it when 50% of the population doesn't even bother to vote. Some people are even more naive than you, and actually believe we still control the process! God help us, cause we sure won't.0 -

This is a massive tragedy; I can not believe nobody has said anything about this.
This guy was allowed to breed before the world was eradicated of his presence.0 -
Well, jhigh420, if you had read my post, I stated that race was not a factor as someone else had previously implied. I merely gave numbers supporting that the fact he was black did not surprise me.
MY ARGUEMENT IS THAT HE WAS A CRIMINAL WHO FOUGHT THE POLICE, not a black criminal who FOUGHT THE POLICE. Those "statisics" are proven day in and day out by the black race and I have seen so in the last 13 years on duty. And with a sign-in name like "jhigh420", I as a Police Officer, cannot and will not take your post seriously. The fact that you refer to "high" and "420" in your name simply implies that you, my friend, are nothing more than a pot smoking hippie because you had to be high to post that comment.
And just to let you all know, the number "420" is pot-head jargon for lighting it up. Kinda like "It's five o'clock somewhere".0 -
I appreciate your responses gbeggrow, jpwolf, and even wartiger. Sorry for the length of this, and it's not a dissertation, dammit.
First order of business -
Wartiger, I hate to single you out, but YOU must be the high one to think people can't see you painting crime's face as that of a black man. Enough people already believe that so you don't have to sugarcoat it. Your little disclaimer that this is not about race seems like just that - a disclaimer to protect you from seeming biased. What you are doing is spewing asinine statistics that aren't even accurate and expecting people to believe you weren't pulling race into this.
While you're right, numbers don't lie, people who present them often twist them towards their own agenda. I do appreciate your service as a police officer and your opinion as such you are clearly entitled to. But as far as the shooting issue, you are biased based on your experiences as an officer. Most likely the reason you've seen this day in and day out is most police departments use racial profiling day in and day out. What better way to look good than by finding easy targets? Looking for crime in the ghetto where drugs are out in the open instead of behind closed doors in suburbia is just easier. Don't get me started on the war on drugs, either. You got to do what you got to do for the paycheck, I understand.
However, when you try to take it to the next level by painting the face of crime as that of a black man with your unresearched statistics and subjective life experiences as a police officer you're just plain wrong. Blacks, whose percentage comprise the majority of all state's whose statistics are available prison populations(but not 80%), shouldn't even be part of this discussion, if it's not about race. BTW, I am no potsmoking hippie, just because I have 420 in my username. And High is my real last name. Since you really have nothing intelligent to say on this, I can see why the deflection on the issues here.0 -
gbegrow - I'm still not fully convinced we should build a death camp for your "bottomfeeders" despite the warm welcome to gunbrokers.com
. You won't tolerate these bottom feeders to exist even though we have created them with entitlement programs and handouts for these past four or five decades? I pray your college days are not responsible for this, and if so I hope you would work hard to undo any damage done. I'd rather call your bottomfeeders the byproducts of an increasingly socialized U.S. Is your hard-line stance(extermination?) a result of your detachent and distance from such types? It's easy to make excuses to use these people as entertainment or just not care when they are exterminated by wartiger(friendly jab wartiger, relax). The war on drugs may even be as good of an idea as the so called war on poverty(more taxes either way right?), hell! However, eventually you or your kids are going to have to deal with the increasing complications that have been created by both the prison nation and the slow erosion of our civil liberties.
With our government creating and filling these ghettos, is it really extermination time? Sorry, I'm not for the domestic extermination of potential threats. Thank God this isn't where police are the threat to our freedom -most of the time.
jpwolf - am I wrong to assume that the majority of individuals in public housing are uneducated and stuck in crime-ridden areas of their locale unable to escape? gbeggrow, wartiger, being cold and callous to these "ghetto" folks only leads to more dangerous criminals. I have no sympathy for violent individuals(thugs), but most of the ghetto individuals are social victims as far as I'm concerned. They and theirs have no hope for the future, taught by their parents to hold out for the handout.
This is about the individuals in the story, however. I can't get the video to play in firefox, but I can deduce "my baby daddy got shot" was ghetto, and probably said things like "my baby daddy got shot" and other remarks indicating her lack of education with a confusing southern twang. If people were just mocking her lack of education she deserves it. But it shouldn't be a death sentence for her child's father simply because she can't speak "propa in-glis." My heart hardly bleeds(she was probably the one who called police), but I am sympathetic to the family so far. As far as the victim, he is the person most responsible for his demise by causing a chain of events whose end result may perhaps be unfair, but ultimately he had control of. I still have room to acknowledge individual responsibility is ultimately responsible for where we land in life and also demand equal treatment for all under the law as our constitution demads.
Basically, I wouldn't have had a problem with it if they chased him down and rightfully convicted and sentenced him for whatever laws he broke if he fled police. On the other hand, I think people who put other people in danger by fleeing should be taken down. I think death is a little over the top for mouthing off or running to/from the police. After all, the police are not the judge and jury, nor should they be. I also believe it is their obligation to have a good relationship with the communities they service then respect will be their. Good officers do, and are not condemned by their community for doing what they are trained to do.
Wartiger mentioned race, not you gbeggrow, but your "riiiiiight" seemed to express a lack of desire to explore what really happened. The truth is most likely no one will know but the officer who shot him and the dead man. I for one care about the truth and American justice even for those shoved into the ghettos. I'm not trying to accuse this officer of misconduct, I just want people to think a little more about this incident and that it be investigated thoroughly. Shooting people in the back for running is not keeping us safer or in line with American justice in general. It's more likely to incite a riot or make future suspects even more dangerous. While I can't confirm as absolute that he was shot in the back, hearing that along with increasing levels of Atlanta-area police misconduct is what sparked my interest in the matter leading to gunbroker.com's forum. It's more disturbing that few care about what really happened than the man potentially being shot for mouthing off at the police. Thankfully, the GBI seems to care enough to investigate.0 -
I wonder why this always seems to happen in Metro Atlanta?
