Teamsters
if there is any UNION teamsters out there i need a question answered. on a union job, heavy hiway contract, is it the responsibility of the driver to place the material on the truck or is it the job of the laborer. please no guessing i need hard facts.

Considering that none of the "Teamsters Union" members even know how to hook, let alone drive a team, I gotta ask why you would want to join a bunch of wanna-be's?

To join you need to get a job at a union shop.
I am a 3rd generation Teamster.
The work, pay, and bennies are great!
My last job (when I was still working) I was makeing $1400 a week and only worked 4 1/2 days (70 hours). I did have to unload my own truck (we delivered to McDonalds) but everything else was handled for me (loading, fueling, and sometimes the hookup of the trailers).
I highly recomend a Teamsters job if you can get one!0 -

PROFIT is the word you're looking for - and profit is what business is supposed to generate. A necessary ingredient to profit for a business is jobs, as well as equipment, materials,etc, which in turn create jobs. No profit = no business = no jobs.
There must be a balance. Business must make a profit, workers should be reasonably compensated. If I own a business (or shares), I want big profits; if I work there, I want a big paycheck... gotta have balance.0 -

......one of the major reasons........ GREED is just one reason, you can say profits are another, but after 23 years in the Detroit auto biz, I've seen the "creative book keeping" game too often to believe much of the doom and gloom that comes out of Detroit. Anyone with an ounce of brains knows that a company loses money during a "launch". This is part of the LRP, yet our Executives seem to be taken by surprise when this happens. Launching 11 vehicles in one year is an expensive proposition, yet has to be done stay competitive. The "profits" are earned AFTER the vehicles are sold, NOT before. I have worked my entire career on the R&D side of the business. One could say that I never made a single dollar for the corporation, yet without people doing my job, no vehicles could be sold. In the last 10 years, the big 3 have cried poverty, yet have still paid out handsome bonus' to the fellas driving the ship toward the rocks.... Unions and health care for retirees are the least of Detroit's problems.
