How can i dull paint ?
I need to paint a WWI gun and mount but the paint we have is a gloss and we dont want a gloss. I found the right color( RAL 6006 )and a auto paint co. that mixed it but how can i dull a paint before spraying it or is it possible ? Thought about steelwool after painting but too many small areas i cant get into. Any ideas, can i spray anything on it after painting to flatten it out ?

There is a "dulling" "spray" used by photographers in the studio. It's non-permanant and can be cleaned off. Not to be confused with "dull-coat" which might be permanant.

I would think a flat over spray poly would kill the gloss...maybe. 0 -
They should have made it flat. I had my FJ 40 done in flat tan. It took 3 gal at $50 each (1984). 5 coats outside and 3 inside. Needs to shot as is ie can not be thined. Tri Sodium Phsophate TSP has been used as a deglosser. I am not a painter nor do I play one on this forum. 0 -
Years ago, we had a dulling agent that could be added to automotive paint to get a semi gloss or even flatter paint. I'd check with the local Professional Painters Supply. Our local shop is Painters Supply. 0
