been on generator for 7 hours.
due to freezing rain, power is out. I heard the transformers arcing all night long but it waited until 7:00am to go out. I brought over an extension cord to my neighbor and BAM slipped on my azz! Damn is it treacherous out there! 1/4 inch of ice on every surface. Good think I have plenty of gas.

I have plenty of power to spare. My watt meter is showing that everything that I have on right now is around 2000 watts or so, I have a 5500/8500 generator. Any neighbor that wants it can have it, I have several 100 foot extension cords.
BTW: I just bottled my first batch of cabernet franc this sunday, I'll know in a couple of months if it was all worth it!0 -

A hundred foot cord wouldn't get you to the property line, let alone a neighbor, around here.
I have two generators, one a gas 5,000 watt and another 3,000 watt diesel. When the fires knocked out power in Alpine about 4 years ago I used the diesel to run the refrigerators in my house and my parents house for several weeks. Ran it from 8 am to 5 pm and every two days I had to fill the five gallon tank.0 -

I was asking the question incorrectly. I just did a little google work.
Vintner's Reserve is a series of the less expensive kits made by Winexpert.
I have made four batches of the Vintner's Reserve Pinot Grigio. This is only a $57 kit. It supposed to make 6 gallons but I make it to 5 gallons, this gives it a little more body and it is stronger in alcohol.
This wine really knocks your socks off! It is as good as a $15 a bottle wine from the store, I am making it for $2.75 a bottle counting the cork.
Winexpert has the best winemaking kits on the market today.
By the way slipgate, I noticed you said you will find out in a few months if it is good wine. You may need to be a little patient. I made a red in the Select series, it was a $117 kit. Directions said, Ready to drink in two months.
Well, sounded good to me, because this little cheapo white I have been making is indeed ready to drink in two months and is damn good at that point.
So I cracked a bottle of that red, it was Lodi Old Vines Zinfandel now as I remember, it had been two months in the bottle. It tasted like crap!
I contacted my winemaking shop, the guy there is sharp as a tack, he said that Winexpert was kidding a little on the aging for the expensive reds. He said that I needed to wait at least six months.
Well he was right, the stuff was good at 6 months, and even better at a year.
The guy at the shop suggested I send an email of complaint to Winexpert, he was tired of getting customer complaints on this subject.
Anyway good luck with your red I am sure you will like it.

Funny you should say that. The shop was adamant that I wait 6 months but the box says 1 month. So with what you say and the shop, I'll wait the 6 months!

The funny boys at Winexpert! On the whites they say one to two months and they are dead on.
Then they proceed to lie like hell on the expensive reds. Go figure.
What was sad was, I tried one bottle at two months, poured it down the drain. Tried another two weeks later, poured it down the drain.
One night I was a little drunk on homemade beer, I dumped TWO of the Zinfandels down the drain. At $5.30 per bottle it was adding up.
I had tossed about 6 bottles when I finally contacted my shop and he told me to wait six months, so I had only 17 bottles left at that point.
By the time a year had passed I only had about 5 bottles left.
The Zinfandel was distinctly better at a year than it had been at six months, and yours will be also.0 -
What really sucks is that I bought one of the limited run desert port kits for $150. 3 gallons, no water added, 15 bottles total. I had to waste at least a bottles worth of port because it was too much for the carboy! If I had know, a 4 gallon carboy would have been better. I didn't waste it though, I drank all the wastage. Oh my GOD was it good! I have like 8 bottles left and it is the best desert wine I've ever had.
The kits don't come with enough potassium (whatever) for aging over 6 months either which is strange. The extra potassium is really cheap so no clue why they wouldn't include this. Even if it was good at 1 month like they say, drinking 30 bottles of the same wine over 5 months is kind of a lot.0
