Bonus
Every year i get a bonus pool to devide up to my Ass. Managers. Today one was saying they would be upset if the only got what they got the same as last year. Last year they got $9,000.00 I wanted to beat them. It is a bonus anything is just that a bonus.

I am always happy with what i get. Sure every year I would like more because to me that shows I did a better job but I am happy with what I get. Bonus come out in March so needless to say March is a Good gun month. 0 -

Wanting more money doesn't make him/them a bad person. With that said, the only obligation you have is to live up to your agreement or contract with them. If the bonus is profit driven, but expenses have gone through the roof in the last year so even though sales may be up, profit is down, well, for a bonus you could also buy them a book on economics and then perhaps they would have a better understanding of the need to add value to your organization, not just meet the numbers required.

Mid 30's isn't alot of money and it's easy to understand why they would look forward to a bonus. This year before anyone gets a penny, I would sit them down and explain to them how replaceable they are, and thier replacements would get no bonus, or 1/2 the bonus they currently get. Not to try and sound like a tyrant, but to explain to them that they are crazy if they feel that any company, yours or wherever they work in the next 30 years will likely never have any emotional attachment to them or thier income.
If you have a job, you can be replaced.0 -
I don't like the bouns concept at all. Pay a man what he is worth.
If he ain't producing like he should, get rid of him.
If a certain facility does not produce well, they get paid squat for bonus. Facilities that greatly exceeds their production of last year, and precieved potential, gets paid a larger bonus. If a facilitiy exceeds too much, the bar for the bonus is changed. Moral suffers. If corporate losses money but the facility is performing, the bar is changed. Moral suffers.
It would be a whole lot simplier to pay a man what he is worth and have less patience for incompetence.
The negatives out weigh the positives for bonus systems.0 -

I also hate to see when people play the OT game like a bonus. They don't do squat during the regular working hours so that they can cash in on the overtime when it becomes a crisis.0 -

Bonus????? the company I worked for in the 70s and early 80s made me manager and I took a department that was a million dollar liability and made it a paying asset the last year netting 2 million, and after 15 years of service they gave me a $2.00 tie tack.
I quit and went into business for myself. thank youIf you get a bonus thank em and quit grousing.

How do you determine your bonus program? If its profit driven and you were gang busters this year then I don't think it is out of the question.
I am sure there is not enough info to make a real opinion on this.
btw:
30k/yr; 40hr/wk x 50wk/yr (2 vacay wks) = 2000hrs ; 30,000$ / 2000hrs = 15$/hr. [standard pay]
9000$/2000hrs is 4.50$/hr. [bonus pay]
So why arent you paying them 19.50 an hour instead of the 15$/hr?
9000$/50wk is an extra 180$ wk you arent paying them so you can be the nice guy and give them a big bonus.. [B)]

Bonus is not an apt term for what you describe, although that is what most companies call it. I was part of a bonus program like this where I got about 30% of my salary every year in an annual "bonus".
Courts and labor laws define this type of regular bonus as part of salary and as such, it is reasonable and expected and cannot be "not given". In fact many states provide 3x the expected "bonus" plus court/lawyer costs if this type of bonus is not given.
Be careful screwing around with this type of "bonus".
I know most people find this hard to believe so I urge you to do your own research on this. It is readily available.0
