Genuine PROPS for an attorney...in JENA, LA!

My papa is 90+ years old and resides in a nursing home in that now infamous burg called Jena, LA. Yesterday, MLK Day, was the only opportunity I had off from work to travel there and conduct some family business with him. Said business required the services of a notary--the NH administrator is a notary but was off from work. A quick search of the yellow pages (all 30+/- pages in Jena phone book) turned up NO NOTARIES! So I tried the attorney listings. The offices were closed for the holiday--and because the "demonstrations" were located in the area adjacent to the courthouse which is also where most of the attorney offices are found. However, in Jena (pop. 3000+/- humans) some attorneys list their residence phone numbers. I called one and the phone was answered by the attorney's son who gladly gave me his father's cell phone number. I called the cell phone and explained my dilemma to the man who answered. He said he'd stop by his office, pick up his notary stamp and come right over. Within 35 minutes he was there--dressed in his sweats, briefcase in hand. He conducted the necessary paperwork, and said that his business was done. As he started to leave my papa's room, I asked him what I owed him. He said, "NOTHING, I'm just sorry you had to come to Jena on a day with all this mess going on."

How 'bout that for a DECENT GUY--no charge for services rendered on his day off, and he even made a "house-call" to get it done. I've changed my opinion of lawyers, thanks to that kind, helpful fellow. Of course, I'm putting a gift certificate to one of the local eateries in the mail to him as a gesture of my appreciation.[^][:)]

    ive always found lawyers, police etc are a lot more accomadating when they belong to a small community.they realise they do a valuable job for their community also realise not everyone can get things done between 9 till5 5 days a week. ..he sounds like one of the good ones.

    As I have stated before, I own property in LsSalle Parish and my kids went to school in Jena, many years ago.
    I have also spent a night or so in the Jena jail. Highly recommended. It is clean and on the upper story of the court house.
    Politics in LA are everything. Even Paul Harvey stated, "You can get more time in jail in LaSalle Parish for killing a hog than killing a man". How sad and how true.
    I may have to go back there on business in the next few months. Hope Revs AL & Jackson & KKKhave moved on to better things. Tom

    BTW, it went out in the mail today, I could not send it yesterday as that dead black guy caused a holiday.

    You are doing good, first attempts at humor sometimes hurt but they get easier with each time. After a while you will loosen up so much that you will have to really try hard to tighten up with the little humor you get. Don

    I'm a public notary for Maryland but would never make a house call unless it was someone that I knew. That was really out of the way!

    BTW: In Maryland you are not allowed to profit off notary fees, just recovery of actual expenses. I have never charged anything.
