Just went Hunting ..... saw a Lynx
I just went hunting at 3 Colorado time. When I got to the Prairie dog spot it started to snow. While glassing about 270 yards away I first thought I saw a coyote, but then I got a good look at his profile, it it was most likely a big Lynx. He did not have the clear coat of a lion, nor did I see a long tail. His body measured about 4 4.5 feet silhouetted right next to a fence with barb-wire twisty spacers took up 2/3 of the 6 foot spacing.
Thrilling. I am going back to watch for him soon.

Delta? A sign of a heavy winter I guess. I've seen one between Telluride and Norwood but I was very close to timberline.0 -

what you might notice is that the Black Canyon is SW of this.
The area just south is on a former 7000 ac hunting ranch with very few humans entering.
My ranch is 3 miles SSE, there is a mountain lion there.
Lynx have been reintroduced to this area of Colorado.
I doubt if at 280 yards and snowing that a digital photo would have shown much, but you can be sure I will have it ready next time.0 -
mbk...ok, im an idiot!...but what is the difference between a bobcat and a lynx? ive seen pictures of bobcats but i dont know if ive seen any pics of a lynx...i just assumed they were the same animal, just called a different name...a bit like some say puma, some say mountain lion.. 0 -

The area S of that location almost to Hy 50 bounded by the Black Canyon, and By Hy 92 is nearly 240 sq miles, and there are essentially no people there, especially anywhere more than 4 miles W of 92. That is half the size of NYC.
There are people W of 92 and S of Crawford, but not many, and there are almost no inhabitants on the west edge of Fruitland Mesa towards the canyon...So it makes sense that it would be a D-O-Wildlife release area. Interesting, you can Google Earth the Smith Fork Canyon S of this spot. It is so big that it would be a Nat-Park back east, but many locals here do not even know it is there, just
some 10 miles N of the Black Canyon.

Prairie Dogs are out on sunny days in the snow. I have shot 3 days and got 9, 10, and then 19 with a buddy.
I have been shooting my 17HMR, but took an old H&R 301 in 243 today, and my Savage 223. But I didn't shoot.0 -
MBK, I was pretty surprised when my trail camera had a photo of a Bobcat on it...We had the Lynx/Bobcat debate over it as well.

wow! that is one big cat--i've only seen 2 bobcats in the wild and neither one was as large as that one in your pic. 0 -
Yep love to see big cats in my neighborhood. Many bobs and cougers but only 1 lynx. The sure keep the stray dogs in check. 0 -
