Former Pro-Wrestling Champ vs Former UFC Heavyweight Champ. If Lesner can keep track of his arms he will beat Mir into a bloody puddle.

Tyson Griffin (155) vs. Gleison Tibau (156)
Griffin has a history of putting on some spectacular fights. This one could be crazy.

    I was curious to hear your opinion Elk on this Lesner taking on Mir. Frank Mir is no slouch, you think the inexperienced wrestler can beat him? Whats the wrestler got going for him in a MMA fight? I don't know anything about this Lesner guy.

    Also, I'll take Sylvia over Nogueira. And Nate over Jeremy Horn.

    Lesnar is the proverbial $64,000 question. I'll break it down for you as I see it.

    True. Not only is he a former HW champ but is considered either the #1 or #2 submission expert in the HW class with the other spot occupied by Nogueira. The problem with Mir is that he has not looked good since his horrible motorcycle accident. He is 2-2 upon returning to the UFC and those 2 wins did not come back to back. His conditioning has never been good and has looked sub-par in his last 4 fights. He says he is 100% but I don't buy it. He is almost 30 lbs heavier than when he was champ. Mir sure can win this fight. His best chances are with some 1st round submission that tends to catch wrestlers who aren't accustom to seeing people fight from their back...something like an armbar, heel hook, or a triangle choke.

    Lesnar may have spent the last 6-7 years as a pro-wrestler but he is perhaps the most experienced wrestler to enter the UFC.
    -33-0 record in his senior year of high school

    -won the 2000 NCAA wrestling championship as a heavyweight after placing second in 1999.

    High-level amateur wrestling is a great asset in mixed martial arts, as many of UFC's biggest stars all have a substantial wrestling background, Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Quinton Jackson, Dan Henderson, Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Diego Sanchez, Rashad Evans, Tito Ortiz, Clay Guida, Keith Jardine, Roger Huerta, Jake O'Brien, Frankie Edgar, Matt Hamill, Brandon Vera, Gray Maynard, Corey Hill, Matt Grice and others.

    But wrestling success is no guarantee of MMA success. For every Couture or Dan Severn, both of whom competed on the U.S. national team in international competition and are among only a few fighters in the UFC Hall of Fame, there are great wrestlers, including national champions and Olympians, who have gone nowhere in MMA.

    A little disclaimer here: I'm no Lesnar fan. But I am always intrigued by style match ups and this one looks like a gem on paper. Let just see how it turns out.

    If he would tone down the aggression he would have an easier time keeping track of his arms and legs. He learned a huge lesson last night-its more of a chess match than it looks.

    Why would anybody pick Lesnar over Mir? Good Grief, I called that one well before the fight, I said "Frank Mir by knee bar". Nobody gets knee barred anymore and that just goes to show how out classed Lesnar was, he's just lucky he didn't get anything broken. I also said he didn't know how to hit someone he proved that in queer boy form. He has potential but will never be a factor in MMA if he doesn't train under someone who can teach him. He stepped into the Octagon with a top tier heavyweight and got put in his place.

    I was most impressed with Tim Boetsch, he totally demolished Heath. That was a great beatdown. That guy got kicked around and then thrown on his head.

    I also took Big Nog over Sylvia. That jolly green giant jabb of his makes you tired, he's not champion material.

    Did you watch the fight? Lesnar looked very good. Sure he is and will be prone to submissions from the top BJJ guys. If he NEVER figures out how to keep his arms and legs in check he will still be a top 5 UFC heavy weight.

    I love it when guys like Boetsch get an opportunity and cash in big time. I hope he lands a multi-fight deal because I sure want to see him again.

    Sylvia's 3 losses are all at the hands of BJJ guys. He is one dimensional, boring, fights not to loose rather than win. Nothing I like more than watching him get choked. Too bad only guys like Nog and Mir can beat him and they have got to get punched in the face for a while before they get the takedown so Timmy is going to beat them about half the time. Damn you Randy you jacked up a perfectly good HW division.

    Yeah I watched it like usual, and I saw a fast take down. Then some pittiful hammer fist attempts and then I saw someone who was lucky he didn't leave with a blown out knee. Lesnar is to much muscle and not enough cardio, he was sweatin like a hog. If he is a top 5 MMA HW he better learn to end it in R1.

    That was probably the best UFC I've seen yet.
