The UFC makes another trip across the pond to fill the vacant lightweight title. Here are my picks. Winners marked with *.

Fights to watch:
B.J. Penn (154)* vs. Joe Stevenson (154) - for vacant lightweight title
I will be routing for Stevenson but at 154 BJ is one of the nastiest fighters on the planet. Stevenson's only hope is to survive the submission attempts until the later rounds then capitalize on BJ's conditioning. Don't miss this fight.
Gabriel Gonzaga (255)* vs. Fabricio Werdum (247)
Werdum won there 1st meeting in Brazil in 2003. (not 100% sure of the year) Both are much improved but I think Gonzaga has developed into one of the top strikers in the sport. Despite the fact that he tried to stand with Arlovski back in April, Werdum's bread and butter is still BJJ. His striking was not good so I hope to see him revert to the BJJ that made him one of Prides top heavyweights. This sets up a great style match up, which are always my favorites.
Marcus Davis (169)* vs. Jess Liaudin (170)
Liaudin is arguably the best 170 pounder in Europe but I think he will be overwhelmed by Davis who has put on some great shows in the past year. They will stand and trade until Liaudin realizes he is trouble the Liaudin will try to take it to the ground. For Davis to win he will have to avoid the initial take down attempts and stay aggressive.

i'll take BJ to win. the other fights dont seem too spectacular. the next free fight night on Spike is on Jan 23rd. then they have another ppv on Feb 2nd. 0 -

B.J. Penn def. Joe Stevenson via submission (rear-naked choke) BJ cut Stevenson with an elbow in the 1st and the cut was NASTY! Some people have argued that elbows to a downed opponent should be illegal due to the nature of the cuts. I'm starting to agree.
Fabricio Werdum def. Gabriel Gonzaga via TKO (strikes)
Gonzaga looked good at the start but appeared gassed in round 2. Although his leg kicks were effective he played that card one too many times. Not to Gonzaga...you are not Antoni Hardonk stop kicking and start punching.

Isn't this Mike's 1st fight at 170? He could be very dangerous at 170.0 -
Very dangerous at 170! I thought he sometimes looked kinda soft at 185.
Swick is one of my favorite fighters. Hopefully we'll see him fight
a little more often now.0 -
Swick was small for 185 but did very well until he fought Okami who is a huge 185 pounder. Swick should be one of the biggest guys at 170. Should be fun to watch. 0
