Range report .22 mag

AMT Automag II

I must say that this is a fun pistol [:D] and I can afford to shoot it. Not as accurite as my high standard but at apprx. 40 yds. I can still keep them in a 10" circle. Out of 100 rds. I had one failure to eject at round 93, and that was it. (not bad for a dirty rimfire)
In the pic the top bullet was a 45 grn. winchester dynapoint that struck a 230 grn. fmj .45 downrange in the backstop. That .22 almost went through that .45!! The bottom bullet was a cci maxi mag tnt that mushroomed out rather nicely. With results like that who needs a .17 hmr.
Anyone else have an AMT? And what do you think of them?

    I have one and think it is just a great little gun. I have had mine for almost 20 years now and other then the ejector wearing out I have had no real problems with it. Mine will shoot any brand of ammo. I carry it for hunting small game but the BOOM it makes scares the crap out of everything in the area. [:D] I have loaned mine out 3 times now for taking a concealed carry course and it has not had a single poblem.

    Mine also gets used for concealed carry , I know it is not a big enough bullet, depends on what I am wearing and where I am going I carry it. Besides I have seen what those hollow points can do.

    P.S. Brownells has some parts listed for them.

    had one once & wish i still did....clean chamber regular to keep the little holes clean...they function to control blowback of brass .....if i remember right you should see 6 small spots on ejected brass...cabelas has bulk 22 mag ammo for sale

    Was this free hand, from a solid rest, from sand bags, vice...??

    I have an AMT that I ordered in March and received in July. Has been back to High Standard twice for feed/ ejection issues, but seems to be working fine now. Had trouble with several brands of ammo. My piece seems to like CCI and Remington best and none of the lighter bullet weights. Had alot of trouble with Winchester ammo although that is what factory reccomends. Yes mine puts out a big boom also, guys at the range can't believe it when they see that all that noise is coming from a 22 magnum. Really love this piece, it is a true joy to shoot when functioning properly. Hope to have a chance to handle and fire one of the California made pieces to compare with my Texas made pistol

    Nice gun, a Deputy friend of mine carried a AMT .380 for yrs and it was a good shooter. For some reason he decided to sale it, it still kick myself for not buying it. I just have never been a fan of the .380acp.

    I had an El Monte built one, and it was a great little pistol - never any complaints about it.

    If I remember correctly, the factory manual recommend AGAINST CCI ammo, at that time.

    Also had an AMT .380 single action Backup that I carried for many years, cocked and locked. I liked it too.

    This one is not one of the new ones made by High Standard, but one of the oringal ones. The High Standard I mentioned in my post is an old H-D Military.
