    yep... your conservatives are doing and saying exactly what ours did and said in regards to gun laws...and with a lot of your proposed laws and bans i swear your "ANTI GUNNERS" have been in contact with "OURS" ..sometimes when i read what is proposed in the U.S. i get flash backs...its spooky!

    do you at least still have the right of habeus corpus in Australia?
    How about protection from unreasonable search and seizure?
    We don't.

    Do your leaders still get chosen based on the votes cast in an election? ours don't (its know who you vote for that counts, its who counts the votes - diebold in our case).

    Do you have effective free speech (probably not) we don't either, we can thank the FCC for granting a monopoly on the airwaves to the few very rich with very close political ties.

    Im trying to find a job in Canada myself.

    First Amendment -
    Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
    -Some of the amendments protections still remain

    Second Amendment -
    A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
    - This will soon be completely gone

    Third Amendment - Protection from quartering of troops.
    No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.
    - This still remains,

    Fourth Amendment -
    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
    - This is basically completely gone

    Fifth Amendment -
    No person shall be held to answer for any capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
    - Largely gone

    Sixth Amendment -
    In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

    Seventh Amendment -
    In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

    Eighth Amendment -
    Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

    Ninth Amendment -
    The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
    -Treated as meaningless

    Tenth Amendment - Powers of states and people.
    The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
    - 100% completely gone

    Article 1: "The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion, the public safety may require it."
    - Gone

    The rest of our rights have dissappeared, what makes you think they would stop at the one that gives you a slim chance of being able to fight back?

    ca, we can be searched anywhere anytime on grounds of reasonable suspicion...always been that way.
    yes, but we are forced to vote, if we dont we get fined...i wish it was volantary here...gun lobby would have power then, none now.
    free speach exists in law, not in our constitution...depends on the circumstances.
    freedom of religion is guaranteed at state level, not in constitution..we had a referendum on it awhile ago now and the people rejected it...would have allowed "whocko" religious cults to establish here.
    no such thing here like your 2nd amendement.

    4th?...depends on circumstances.
    5th?..you got to be kidding, here if you dont answer a question when asked by a police officer you cant rely on that information in a court of law.
    6th..i`m not sure, but trials seem to happen fairly fast here.
    7th..forget about it unless you are rich!
    8th...not likely here! we based most of our laws and our constitution on british law.
    9th..if you have a constatutional right in theory it oberrides every other law..works in theory, very expensive to go to our high court to ensure your constitutional rights.
    in theory the states have certain rights, but the commonwealth overrides them at will, or so it seems...like our gun laws, the states here have control of setting their own gun laws but in `96 the federal government overrode the states and dictated and openly threatened the states, they told the states that any state that didnt agree to impilment the gun laws the feds wanted would loose all federal funding, thus bankrupting the state!.
    as i`ve said in previous posts on the gb forums, australia is not a democracy!...how can we be when we are forced to vote in all state and federal elections...a democracy is suposed to be about having the right to choose!.
    good luck with your fight to keep your rights...from what i`ve read about it you are loosing them a little bit at a time...once you loose them you wont get them back...once a politician has power he wont give it up unless his cushy job is on the line!
