He's full of it. Saudi Arabia has proven reserves of arond 265 billion barrels of crude while the entire North Slope of Alaska has about 10-15 billion, taking into account the areas currently off limits to drilling. Prudhoe Bay itself has about 3 billion barrels of oil remaining. The entire proven reserves of the United States are about 22 billion barrels, less than one tenth the Saudi reserves. The very idea that you can hide 200 billion barrels of crude oil is about as likely as hiding the jet that hit the Pentagon...Oh wait a minute, that is just what happened if we are to believe everything we read here on Gun Broker. Go out and ask someone in the oil business about "Gull Island" and they will laugh in your face! 0 -
Not only "Gull Island", but Mukluk, Mars, and then Camden bay back to the east, just name a few
I have been on a bunch of "dusters" west and east of Prudhoe and even ones in-field in Kuparuk, Alpine and Milne point0 -

For those not in the oil business Mukluk was a (supposed) off shore oil field about 20 miles from Prudhoe Bay. Back in 1982 or 83 Sohio Oil (now a part of BP) actually went so far as to construct a large island out in the bay, spent $100+ million drilling and another one or two billion on exploration and buying up worthless leases in the surrounding areas. All of this was for nothing because Mukluk was a dry hole! Don't believe what you've heard about oil so abundent in Alaska that you can just scrape the dirt with a shovel and the crude will pour out of the ground...It ain't that way folks. There is oil up there but not nearly enough to solve our energy needs for two hundred years. We had better start getting ready to pony up money to Vietnam because the South China Sea probably holds the last chance for crude oil deposits on this planet beyond those which are already known to exist.0 -

It's true, and the democrats are blocking drilling in Alaska because they say it is an enviromental issue. You also have to remember that BP Petrolium and Mobil/Exxon will have the leases, and even though they pull it out of American soil, they will be free to sell it to China, the largest user of petrolium in the world. 0 -

Oil shale and crude oil are not the same things. Too many people think that oil shale is oil sand, but unlike oil sands the shale is not a bitumin. You can burn shale but it is not a subsitute for crude oil since it lacks many of the elements needed to refine it into heating oils or motor fuels.

As you can see we use three times the crude oil as the Chinese (so don't be mislead) and nearly as much oil as those other 9 nations combined.0 -
Right now the biggest untapped reserves or should I say un-utilized resource on the North Slope is the natural gas, people in normal jobs cannot begin to comprehend how much usuable natural gas has been flared off over the years because only few things you can do with it after it's at surface,
(1)flare it, because your pipeline system is unable to hand anything besides crude or white crude.
(2) inject it back into various formations for enhanced recovery, to help some of the thicker (more costly to extract)oil to be produced, sometimes it's nice crude, but porosity of the rock makes it needs mother natures little helper.
(3) Inject it into the annulus between your production tubing and casing and use gas lift mandriles to help lift the oil when it doesn't have the pressure to do it on it's own, this is a plus because you don't have to run electric pumps in the hole. then you still have to seperate the gas and oil at surface and deal iwth it again.
A pipeline right alongsside of the big pipe should have been constructed long ago.

...There is a LOT of oil up there...but between the lefties and McCain...we cannot drill it...then the lefties snivel about oil prices, and scream for energy independence etc.
...The greenies, global warming whacko's, lefties don't want us to build refineries, drill for oil that has been FOUND, nor build any nuke plants...ready for 3-wheeled "cars" and tents with candles? Vote Lefty...or McCain...[^]
