Is there such a thing as an affordable...

surveillance system/ I need something with a couple cameras (one exterior, one interior) that might be able to work with my computer or something.?.? Any suggestions???

    They are getting quite affordable Eric. I just don't know which ones are good anymore. Mines old but still works perfectly.

    Eric, my neighbor bought a two camera system with a date/time imprinted vcr from Northern Tools. He runs it through a little tv he has, and the views cycle between the two cameras. It was the two cameras, which are wireless, and the vcr for under $300.00. The system will handle two more cameras, which you can purchase sepreately. I thought it would be some kind of joke for that kind of price, but the cameras are very clear and the system is two years old and still works fine. They're color too.

    Video camera's arent that expensive at all until you go to the night vision stuff. I bought a little at a time and set it up myself, Ive got a camera on the driveway front and side as well as back door and one one the second floor balcony to watch traffic. I had some problems with people wanting to throw objects at the house and decorations during the Holidays, and even my cruiser. There nice to have but I advise against the VCR type, when you record over them there not clear. I bought the disk monitor and one disk is good for 72 Hrs and you can put 3 in at a time. You cant record over the disk but their pretty cheap and very clear, and can pay for theirselves. I recommend checking with Radio Shak they can get anything you will need. Dont even bother with the Security Systems that call you and 911, every time it storms or during inclement weather they usually go off for some reason. Our local Sheriff's Dept. is considering not responding to them because they have so many false alarms.

    There getting more affordable every day. The chinese are selling them over here like hot cakes. The wireless ones that hook up to your home pc are a couple hundred bucks, with 4 infrared cameras. Check ebay.

    Its not the cameras that get you....its the recording device that will be MONEY if you get something worth having. At the store we have many many many cameras. Some are hooked into a digital system and some are recorded on VCR tapes. You can have all the cameras in the world....but unless you can play things back and be able to get details in the recordings you may as well not have anything. Even if you can't find a deal on the NICE stuff....load up on the crappy ones. You can get a couple cameras that include a small monitor from Radio Shack for under $50! Have that type of thing EVERYWHERE you can stand to have it.....and put the monitors where the people shopping can see themselves. Post lots of signs that say "SMILE!!! YOU ARE ON CAMERA!!" An ounce of prevention is worth way more than a million dollar system. Its all in vain though....we had a large group of crooks come in last year. They got the attention of everyone in the store while one of them shoplifted. Even with all of the video and having a complete description of the car they drove away in....while they were pulling out of the parking lot. They have YET to be caught. Prevention is where you need to put your money.

    Have it so they cannot reach over into the counters. Put up a high piece of plexiglass on the back of the counter....fix things ONE shelf deep....put high stacks of things where they can't get over it to get into things. Keep high dollar items behind the counter....make it so that you can always be behind the customers....you aren't stuck on one side of the room. Fill blind spots with things that aren't shopliftable....like large cases.
