M1 Carbine ?

Our local Big 5 has an Inland M1 carbine for $999.99. The ad in Sunday's paper claims "Genuine war surplus" What gives,those things worth that much?

    I paid $500.00 for a springfield M1 carbine, it still had the orignal sling and 2 magazine pouches

    That's funny I just went into Big 5 and saw the M1 yesterday and wondered the same thing.

    Wait till Big 5 has a sale, then they are normal price.

    They have MN for ~$175 all the time. Then they have sales quite often where they are $89.

    way overpriced unless it's a real deal never been through arsenal rebuild M1 carbine and is still in good shape. My underwood would probably fetch about 500 should I choose to sell it, and it's got some mismatched parts.

    If you want it to SHOOT, be advised that Kahr is now selling BRAND NEW manufactured M-1 carbines for about 700 or 800 bucks. I want a good shooter, not a wall-hanger. There's a firm that remanufactures M-1s, (new barrel, etc.) and sells them for about $1200 but I'm pretty sure it's not Inland.

    Follow-up on my earlier post. Fulton Armory rebuilds WWII-era carbines to high standards. Auto Ordnance has recently started manufacturing new carbines to D-Day appearances, and these are marketed through Kahr Arms. There's some good folks doing great things out there!

    Look around for a IAI M-888. They are GI pattern M-1 Carbines. I bought one new 2 and a half years ago for $500. It's not a collector's item but it's a great shooter.

    Springfield Armory (the goverment arsenal) did not make M1 Carbines.
    Did you mean a commercial Springfield??

    is your rifle ammo finicky?? Mine would NOT cycle anything but Sellier & Belliot...I read that the chambers were slightly shorter than USGI spec...got rid of mine for a USGI National Postal Meter and lived happily ever after
