    It has the magic words "Custom Shop" in the description...hence the outrageous price

    I have a vintage 586 4" w/box tools and papers, trigger like silk, think I picked it up for $275[:)]

    well, I don't think it was a production gun IMHO...the 586 was discontinued in 2000 according to the "Standard Catalog of S&W 2nd Edition" , so this may be a Lew Horton special or a limited run...it's newer, since it has the different cylinder release latch and has the intergal lock...

    The 586 was the 1st S&W designed from the ground up with the new, more cost effective production features, nameley no pinned barrel, and no recessed cylinder for a Magnum.

    Great guns, but S&W made a sheet-ton of 'em...not worth what was paid IMHO
