SW 460, 500
Has anybody shot both calibers in a 8 3/8" barrel?? If so what is the felt recoil like between the two. I shot a colt anaconda 8" all day with no problem. But I'm hearing that the 500 has less recoil than the 460 even with the dual twist rate???? Thanks, J.

The big advantage with a S&W 460 is that you use .45 Colt, .454 Casull, and .460 S&W. 0 -
I'd go with the .460...I've got one with a 2.75" barrel and I love it. If I can ever afford too, I'd like to collect all the variations of the .460. 0 -
.500 - more versatile and harder hitting reloads.

i have a 500 i love it PLENTY of knock down power.the 460 you can shoot other loads that is true but it won't shoot 500s 0 -

This is kind of like comparing the .50 BMG to the .416 Barrett...I'll take the Barrett...and the best part about the .460 is that you have much more versatility...you can shoot .45 Colt (which feels like shooting a .22 in the heavy X-Frame), .454 Casull, and the potent .460 S&W. 0 -

I've put quite a few rounds through the 8" .500, and the only thing I've heard after letting other people shoot it is "WOW!"0 -
I know the .460 XV is billed as the Highest Velocity Revolver in the World - 2330 FPS/200 Grain and The Most Powerful .45 Caliber Revolver In the World!
... and it probably is.

Can it push a 440 gr lead GC bullet at 1100 FPS giving you around 1200 foot/pounds of energy?
... I'll take the .440 gn any day @ 1100 FPS!

How about a 395 grain hard cast bullet traveling at 1525 fps for a muzzle energy of 2040 ft/lbs...I'll stick with the .460[;)]0 -
That's interesting - but I couldn't find those stats.
I have mine, 4", for a specific (potential) application - it's a next best choice to a .12GA slug gun.

I found ballistics online that state the 500 pushes a 440 gr. @ 1625 fps and muzzle energy of 2580 ft lbs.
