Some are just determined to create problems their whole life.

Gagirl have you had other problems with these neighbors prior to this?

pray to god! then watch it happen anyways, and make up an excuse why god allowed it to happen.

OK, so if all your other neibors get along with your dogs, why is their cage so close to the one that don't?

Is it just me, or am I the only one who finds it strange that in the original post there was no mention of the neighbors instigating the dogs, but now that's the main problem? I still say that a guy can stand in his own yard all he wants, and if it bothers your dogs, tough. They're your dogs. You have to do something about it. But of course, now he is throwing things into your yard at the dogs. LEGALLY...doesn't matter what the mayor, animal control officer, judge, you, or anyone else says, you have to control your animals. Period.

No, not just you. It is the Selectfire school of posting. If you catch flack, add some facts that have been left out. Keep adding until you get approval or poofed. Don

ask god! he knows, he'll tell you.

I agree with most others here.

I think you are obligated to do something. I don't believe you are being reasonable. You may not like hearing this but that's what most here are trying to tell you.

I have a dog and use a no-bark collar. Sometimes the barking bothers me, even during the day.

Our county has a similar law about disturbing the peace 10pm to 6 am. That is not the point.

When I received calls about barking dogs, I generally asked the complainant to try speaking with the neighbors, if possible, before getting LE involved.

If I got sent out there, I would ask the dog owner to address the problem.

I expected the owner to do something. If they did not, I would step up the enforcement to a ticket if I caught the dog barking after hours.

If you wouldn't keep your dogs quiet, even during the day, no one could blamee them for blasting a stereo in YOUR direction as long as it is not between 10pm and 5am, or doing something else to irritate you. These type of things can and do lead to very serious neighbor problems that can lead to murder. I saw just this kind of thing happen. I told both parties to move if they couldn't get along. They both refused. Finally one killed the other. Now both have moved-one to prison and the other to the cemetery.

Do something about the problem-it is your responsibility.

I've dealt with this from the standpoint of a dog owner, and finaly got rid of the dog that always barked at a neighbor.
I've also dealt with it from the standpoint of having a neighbor whose dog barked keeping me awake.
And I've dealt with it from as a police officer responding to fights between neighbors over barking dogs.

There's three options that will solve the problem.
    1) privacy fence
    2) get rid of the dogs
    3) you or they move

As a kid we lived in a fairly populated area, and Dad always raised
hunting dogs, mostly coon hounds. He put tin on the side of the
pen that would not allow them to see the things that would make them
bark. When they would bark anyway Dad could hit that tin with a BB
from the ol Daisy and they'd hush.

When he moved down here, he had a high pressure water hose setup.
Wired it to the side of the pen, and when they heard that water
coming down the hose they'd near knock out the back of their doghouse
    gettin' in it.

I live well out in the country, raised hounds & Great Danes for many
years, and I can't tolerate barking dogs myself. If i had ones that
i couldn't break from needless barking, they weren't here long.

Lady, you're something else. You put up your original post, and many, many, many people tell you to do a few basic, reasonable things that can solve a problem. You can bring the dogs inside. You can get bark collars (and that one guy was totally wrong as you can get collars that allow the dog to bard two or three times and then on the fourth bark give a zap, thereby maintaining the dog's ability to guard the home). You can work on disciplining the dogs to get them not to bark so much.

And many people pointed out just how incredibly annoying it is when a dog barks frequently. And it is incredibly freaking annoying.

And somebody pointed out that living with others requires common courtesy and mutual respect. Good neighbors don't mow the lawn at 7:00 AM, don't blast the stereo while washing the car, and don't leave Christmast lights and decorations up all year. They are thinking about what the neighbors like and want, and noise and eyesores usually aren't it.

AND YOU IGNORED EVERY FREAKING BIT OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Person after person urged you to be polite and control your dogs, and you made excuses and made it your neighbor's problem and said that the dogs barking is legal and on and on and on. You talked about how you asked a bunch of other people and they said it wasn't a problem (did you ever think that they, unlike you, might just be being polite in telling you it's not a big deal? Think about it: Did ANYONE who responsed to your post write "Hey, I enjoy living next to dogs who are constantly barking! I just love the noise!"). And then low and behold you all of the sudden talk about how the neighbor is throwing stuff in your yard (and lady, I'll bet a lot of money that the neighbor threw a stick at your dogs after they'd been barking away for about an hour and he had had more than enough).

So here it is, as clear as I can make. NOBODY likes to live next to loud barking dogs. EVERYBODY hates it. You own these animals, and it's your job to keep them quiet and safe. And I bring up safe because if you allow them to keep barking away, sooner or later your neighbor is going to throw some rotten hamburger in your yard or some Tylenol wrapped in lunch meat and your dogs are going to wind up dead.

Regardless of all that has been said I have been on both sides of the fence. The lab that I had would bark the minute that I pulled into the drive until I went to her. One neighbor complained. I put the collar back on her and when I pulled in the drive and she barked I told her to stop and when she didn't I hit the button. Problem solved.
The two different neighbors behind me were a different story. The first was the chief of police with a german shepard. My son was 2 at the time. The dog was chained up in their back yard which was adjacent to my back yard. We couldn't step foot in our back yard without that damn thing barking at us. I complained to him quite a few times and it did nothing. Finally I told him that there was no way in hell that I would have a kid that was afraid of dogs just because his barked at him the minute we stepped in our own yard and that I would take it higher if he didn't do something about it. He got rid of the dog.
The second neighbors dog was a lab but it was a trained watch/attack dog. In the end it was put down because it had bitten 4 people.
I told him that I didn't appreciate the dog barking at my 4year old son while he was playing in our yard and that if it bit him in his yard then it was my fault as a bad parent. But, if it bit him in our yard then I would go into his house and shoot the damn thing. Luckily neither happend but he tried to keep the dog inside when we were out in OUR yard.
I would talk to the dogs but it did no good.
There is no law that states that you can't stand in our own yard.

Way too many people insist on owning numerous large dogs but don't accept the responsibility of keeping them from annoying people with a lot of barking.

gagirl, Well the people have supplied alot of solutions to your problem. I'm just curious who lived there first? Did you ever try being friendly with them ?

I cant help getting the feeling that there is more to it than the dogs barking !

I have two big puppies myself and YES, I am one of those people that treat their dogs like children! When children need correcting its your duty. Just like children a dog looks to you for approval and if you dont nip it in the but now ,It will only esculate.

Privacy fences make GREAT neigbors! Its a shame you cant get shock collars for your neighbors so everytime they throw sticks at your dogs you can zap them!!

My dogs bark too ,but their only protecting their property! I know when my dogs start going off its for a reason ! I'll check it out and assure them its ok and they come and get acknowledged. I dont condone there barking but I dont condem it either.

You might have to spend some more time training them to listen to you better. But I woulden't go getting rid of them just for doing there job. Like I asked bhale187 ;Would you get rid of your child for crying ?

A book titled (The Bark Stops Here) is prety good if you can find it.

Good luck, You sound like you need it. Oh and as far as those neighbors are concerned. I would try being real nice first and if that dont work, The Heck With Them! As long as your not breaking any town ordinances they cant do crap! and speaking of crap , If they continue to lie about crap then I would start throwing all the dog crap over their fence to give them somthing to really complain about!

You guys are just cracking me up[:D]
The dogs are barking at some rude ^%#$$#@6 person who -
    1. continues to intimidate the dogs
    2. throws things at the dogs (yeah - I'd have thrown a few things back had I witnessed this behavior)
    3. refuses to listen to the owner who is explaining that it could not have been her dogs - HER DOGS WERE IN THE HOUSE AT THE TIME.
All you read is "my dogs barked" and the rest of what she wrote is just BLAH BLAH BLAH
She continued to check on her own with the -
    1. POLICE
    2. Animal Control - where she told you already that her dogs were in compliance with their regulations.
Maybe you should quit trying to speed read and actually take in all the information before you bring in all of your wonderful wisdom about your experiences with real bad pet owners.
I also have no use for dogs that bark all day much less all night. You guys are assuming a lot about gagirl's dogs based on what you want to read into the situation. Why don't you just come out and call her a liar and a moron instead of alluding that she does not know what her own dogs are doing IN HER OWN HOUSE/YARD.
Going by what she has written so far, if you could read, she is in the right.
Oh - that's right she didn't give you all the information at one time - that makes her a liar. Just sit back in your armchairs and keep coming up with some more hilarious crap[xx(]

GAGirl, board your dogs out for a week. bring in couple of decoy dogs and place in yard. Document the heck out of this. If they complain while your dogs are away, you got a pretty good defense againsy whatever they complain about that week. If that don't work, just do whast they do here in Mississippi, give the judge one helluva campaign fund and thing will go your way, Guaranteed. In MS you get the best judgement you can pay for. Tom

My Take: Except for potty breaks, keep your dogs inside at night. If the neighbor complains about daytime barking, tell them to pound sand.
Building a privacy fence is a good idea tho.

Get in the kitchen and bake a pie, (and not one of those freezer pies) take it over an apologize for the times your dogs did bark, and that you would like to work it out with them, make sure the pie is nice and warm so the guy gets a whiff of it.......
You might be surprised what a little humility & a fresh pie can do.

Bluetic...maybe you need to slow down and read again. She DID say her animals were maybe responsible for 50% of what the neighbor was complaining about. Get rid of that 50% and the neighbor can then go pound sand.

So any neighbor can complain that a dog is barking after intimidating the dogs and throwing things at the dogs. Do you see any problem with this?? The dogs and owners are not the problem - hmm - where's the problem - can't quite put my finger on it - oh - oh yes - that neighbor is a JERK
So lets punish the dog - cause that is the neighborly thing to do.
Don - I'd shove that nice warm pie (oh never mind). She has no need to be humble or apologize.

If that's the case, put up a camera to get it on tape and SUE THEM. Not to mention prosecute them.
I don't think barking dogs are illegal in the daytime. But I know killing your neighbors dog in it's own fenced yard is.
As far your neighbor goes, you offered to try to work out a solution. They wouldn't go for it. At that point I would've told the SOB that what happens on his property is his business. And what happens on mine is mine. And don't give a tinkers damn what he thinks about ANYTHING.

ya, but does she really want to use her dogs for bait in a "trap" to git the neighbor?? he kills/hurts her dogs, they go to court and get a slap on the wrist. and there's no guarantees she would be successful in getting them busted in the first place. it's not worth it.
