We could probably get some really good deals on guns, ammo and reloading supplies if we organized as a buying group. We would need a central location to have the items shipped, then we would have to distribute the goods in an efficient manner. I think it could be done if we put our heads together!

Rimfire Central has group buys all the time. I'd be interested reloading supplies.

+1 on the reloading supplies! I am trying to organize one on another board that I belong to.

If it relates to guns, I'm in; even to the point of paying dues as a buying club like Sams or COSTCO.

Powder, Primers, Bullets, Brass, barrels, guns, scopes and any other thing we can leverage better prices on would tickle me pink!

how do you guys plan on getting the reloading supplies to each other, the hazmat fees are outrageous, the savings only work if you pay the fees once on a group buy

Coordinating all of this can be a major head ache...I don't know how well it would work for multiple things...everyone is looking for a different model, etc etc. If we could figure out a way to make it easier, as in a large order of a certain product, I wouldn't mind putting something like that together...and then the dealer has to get everything shipped out to multiple folks as well...

So the question still remains, will buying 20 Vaqueros (or other guns) at a time bring the wholesale price down enough to even mess with? Any dealers out there???

Why did you have to pick Vaquero about the only thing i'm looking at right now for a future purchase. Every time I see an auction for one it keeps calling my name.[:p]

this sounds like a great idea, a real headache for whomever is handling the paperwork, but a great deal for everyone else involved, if I can help in any way I will volenteer

OK, Well I'm looking to buy a matched set of Vaqueros for the mounted cowboy shooting thing. I want high polished stainless, 5.5" barrels and would prefer consec. serial #'s. So that would be two, if the price was right!

The only thing it would save you on is shipping with certain wholesalers. Some wholesalers waive the shipping charges if the order is over a certain amount. The only other way something like this might work out to your benefit is if a dealer (like me) was trying to meet a manufacturer's "buy in" and offered the guns at wholesale...or just above, in order to meet the buy in qualifications. This would definitely work out to my benefit with Kimbers or SIGS. If I can buy in as a master dealer with them, I'd be willing to extend wholesale pricing to meet the buy in.

    This could get interesting.

    My question is.

How could it be set up so that all of the FFL holders and dealers here get a fair share of the business?

Say for example ECC can get 10 XP's for below wholesale. Could say for example LocustFork not do the same if she were to buy the required number in order to qualify for the discount?

Could it be set up in such a way as to have a rotation of X number of dealers on a list?

    Say 1 through 10.

#1 dealer gets the first round of sales then they move the the bottom of the list.

Then #2 dealer would get the next order the rotates to #3 and so on.

One group wants ammo while another group wants AR15's yet another group wants XP's.

To handle who wants what and to compile a list of items that a group wishes to purchase.

Could a free message board not be used such as with Aimoo to set up a list of products wanted and by whom? I am sure that such a board will be choked full of ads and such. But no money will be coming out of anyones pocket to run the thing.

List the topics such as Ammo, Rifles, Auto Pistols, Wheel guns etc etc. That way the GB board is not clogged up with one thread by all of the members wanting many different items then having to sort through the list to see who wants what.

I believe that it could work with a little planning and "management".

There are not really that many deals out there and half of the dealers here are probably stocking dealers/master dealers with at least a handful of manufacturers already. As I already explained, this is not a quantity discount to get a lower wholesale price...it's just a manufacturer's promotion.

As for a list, there's no need for one. If someone wants to make an offer and run the purchases through the auction side, they are free to make the offer when the opportunity arises...there's no need to wait until your number arises...besides that, these opportunities are usually time limited, and must be taken advantage of within a few days.

I have already spent a couple hours on my proposed deal and I've only had one person respond with an order...one other person was kind enough to email and let me know he was not going to be able to take advantage of the deal. This is not a real easy thing to set up.

I understand what you are saying.

But take for example that 20 people wanted to buy, say a 1000 round case of 9mm ammo. Do you think that you could get those 20 cases cheaper than say ordering only one or two at a time? Then what if the order was for 40 or 50 1000 round cases?

They would be no guarantee that you nor any other dealer could get a product cheaper. But it could be worth a shot. It can not really work out when you (for example) pop up and say I can get 10 XP's for less than whole sale. You may not find ten people that are interested in an XP at the moment. But then again what if you knew 10 or so people that are wanting a Ruger Black Hawk .44 mag. Could you not then approach Ruger and get the best price for an order of ten Black Hawks, Come back and let the group know that you can get them for X amount each if a lot of ten were ordered. Or say sorry guys I can not get a deal on them that would be worth my nor your effort.

That way it will not be a pop-up grab it now or lose it deal. People will get what they want instead of what is being offered at that very moment. I know how the routine of, if you buy 9 we will give you one free deal works. Which is fine. But if you have no market for the 9 that you had to buy in order to receive the one free. What good is it to you or the the other two or three that jumped at the deal of getting a good product for less than or at wholesale?

You will not be out nor committed to anything or one nor will the people on a certain "want" list.

It will basically be compiling a list of who wants what. Then when enough people on a certain list is reached to warrant a good discount, if possible, then a deal could be worked out.

I see what you are saying...and I'm quite sure it might work...IF you were ordering a very large quantity of a certain item.[:)]
