System Restore Question...
Something made all of my email disappear yesterday so I restored my system to an earlier date in hopes that the email would come back...it did not. When you use the system restore feature, shouldn't you be able to get back lost data???

Are you useing Outlook? If so check your archive settings... you may have just archived all of it. 0 -
Eric, your email is stored on the host server, doing a system restore on your PC just restores your PC to the last place it was when the restore point was set.
Your email host needs a call from you, and ask em WTH is up!0 -

Eric, you need to tell whether you are using Outlook, or Outlook Express,........or if you are using web based e-mail.

Goto
Tools.... options....then the other tab... about 1/2 way down there is something that says auto archive check there
if you have them archived you can restore them by doint the following:
On the File menu, click Import and Export.
Click Import from another program or file. Click Next.
Click Personal Folder File (.pst). Click Next.
In the File to import box, change the default file name in the path from backup.pst to the name of the archive file you're importing from. Click Next.
Click the folder to import from. If you want, click Include subfolders.
Specify how you want Outlook to handle duplicate items.
Click Import items into the same folder in, and then click the folders with the same name as the folders you're importing from.

Type *.dbx in the search for files box.
The above link may help also.
The search will tell you if they are there.0 -
System restore just returns your system to a safe place in which it was working properly. It will not bring back deleted files that are considered "croupt" such as with a virus.
It will not help get your mail back. Buy you can...
Open OE.
Tools
Options
Maintenance
Uncheck "Compact Messages In The Background" which alleviates the problem of disappearing email.
First step is to open
My Documents
Create a new folder to store email in. Name it whatever you wish to call it.
Now open OE.
If you look in the Maintenance you will see Compact Messages when there is XX percent wasted space.
Click Store Folder.
Change
When the Browse For Folder opens. Choose the new folder that you just created in My Documents.
You mail will then be saved to that folder and out of OE.
If my oldest DD told me correctly that should help stop the disappearing email. She says that McAfee Anti Virus had a problem with OE and it would delete mail and stuff from OE a few years ago. But does not know if the problem has been resolved or not.0 -

It found 111 files, but I cannot seem to be able to do anything with them.
I think I've located a copy of the missing files, but I cannot get them back into OE.?.?0
