And what about when they oblige your request of a smashed computer screen by doing it themselves, and then taking the picture?

It surely pays this day and time to be on your toes, its sad the trust of days gone by is almost non existant.

It won't cost me anything except time as I insured it for the value it sold for. So if they smash the screen, then it won't be much use to them.

I shipped the computer USPS Priority with Delivery Confirmation and Insurance.

Will I have to claim for insurance or will the buyer?

What is needed to claim? The computer, pics etc.

IIRC, they will have to make the claim and then prove to the USPS what they say, and surrender the item. You may have to send them the insurance stub from the Post Office.

You do not have to refund their money at all.

I think all you have to do is send them the paper saying what amount it was insured for, then they have to deal with everything.

So, what you do is mark all listings "AS IS" and require insurance

The buyer puts in the claim, and has to surrender the broken item to the PO and the package it came in. If the package was not damaged when it was received by the buyer he may have a tough time collecting from the PO.

You are the seller. Postal insurance protects you, not the buyer. You have to file the claim. The fact that they accepted it is a bad thing that may prove to be problematic. They should return the laptop to you and you should start insurance proceedings. If they do not have the original packaging showing some kind of damage that could have caused the laptop to be damaged they will probably deny your claim.

How did they pay? If Papal, paypal will refund their money.

If they didn't pay via paypal and you are confident they are playing around, tell them buzz off and take the bad feedback. A little bad feedback isn't going to hurt you. You will probably get it no matter how you handle this case anyway.

I just recieved a check for the insured amount for the Norinco takedown 22 I sold this past SEPTEMBER....and was damaged in shipping....using the USPS.

Start your claim...and don't expect money for 6 months.

R9 - I place the statement below in all my listings and follow though with it. I let jerks like these guys know upfront that I know the condition of the item before it is shipped. If it is packed well, damage should never occur to an item. If a box arrives beatup with holes in it from the shipper, then that is a whole different story.

    1. For insurance purposes and to more easily resolve any issues surrounding condition of item and how it was packaged when shipped, I completely photo document the item at the time it is shipped.

I purchase an AR-7 from a seller on Gunbroker, he said it was rough with broken stock. I just wanted it for parts so stock was OK, but when I got the gun, the front of the magazine well was gooked on with epoxy steel or something that immediately fell apart when a magazine was put in. Repair was not obvious in pictures, but statement in ad said all business was Up front, Honest, and Professional. All efforts to resolve has been to no avail, want to blame me for not asking questions, but how would you know about the repair if you cant see it in pictures. I paid $20 to get the gun shipped, $80 for the gun, and he want me to ship it back and refund the $80. I would be out $40 and have nothing, if he did refund the money, but I am concerned that he would not refund the full price and I would be further stuck. I just cant understand someone claiming to be up front and honest and selling an obvious defective gun. I want to leave negative feedback, but fear that He will do the same to me, and I paid in full and on time. What do you do witha deal like this???

After requesting pics you may not hear back from them.

I sold a set of collectible dishes on fleabay, and the buyer claimed
they arrived broken. I requested pics and never heard back from them.

Oh, and when we sent them my partner messed up and only got $100. ins.
on it. The buyer they would only give her $150., and she wanted
    compensated for the difference.

But they gave it up when i requested pics.

I used to sell laptops on ebay, and quit because of this very reason. Ebay doesnt protect the sellers from instances like this, and if the buyer files a paypal claim against you then your money will be frozen. I sold a laptop to a guy and he tried the broken screen scenario with me, I know darn well the screen wasnt broken when i shipped it plus I also insured it UPS. Paypal sided with him and gave him his money back, i got a broken laptop returned to me. A week later the "buyer" had the same model of laptop for sell on ebay and they said they could not do anything for me. It sounds to me like someone swapping parts on you, especially since his screen name is computer store related.

Ah... don't want to start a dust up, but what do you expect from a buyer named "Texascomputerstore"? The past few days I've been working on last year's taxes. Only had two bad sales to write off this year and both of them where from Texas. With over forty years of business, I've only had about 25 bad deals, and at least three quarters of them have been with people from Texas.

Yeah, I am afraid that I will be out the money. I didn't choose to sell to this buyer but it was an auction and they were the highest bidder.

The reason I asked for pics was hoping that it would all go away. If they send believable pics I will refund the money from my paypal account and then go about getting usps to reimburse but don't have high hopes on that.

They did state in the email that the box was in good condition and didn't look damaged. When I shipped it I put the same peice of foam between the screen and keyboard that Gateway shipped it from the factory from. I took a lot of care in packaging it and find it hard to believe the screen was smashed.

We'll see if they ever email back.

After the initial complaint getting the party on the phone might have been helpful towards determining whether they were scamming or not. You'd be amazed how much of an impression of a person you can get by a simple voice conersation. Hopefully they'll back down after the pic request considering they've probably already sold the laptop(if indeed they are scamming).

They responded to my email about pics.

I felt with the tone of the email and how they wrote things that they were telling the truth. They could not get pics because they did not have a digital camera but were going to send them in 2 days after they borrowed one etc...

The box was undamaged. The computer wasn't much anyways.

I refunded the entire amount including shipping costs. It's what I would have wanted done if I had bought something that came damaged.

I am not going to persue the insurance because the box was undamaged and the value is so small that I don't want the hassle.

i would ask these clown not to bid on any of my auctions again.

The box wouldn't have been damaged if it got dropped/thrown around while en route.

Ahh - there you go! You just can't trust Texans! when will you learn about us? We are all inherently bad, just because we live here! Must be the water. I vote that Obama/Hitlery ban all sales to Texans immediately.... sincerely, Texaswildman
