It appears some of the members of this forum think they are special and should have privledges beyond common sense.

I read where someone would not leave his sidearm in the car when he goes into a McDonalds. Big deal.

If you have a legitimate reason, not your personal tough guy ego, fine but if you do it to feel superior you are not being fair to the other citizens of this country,

Being legally allowed to do something does not make it a good idea in all situations.

Let the bitching begin.

    I have observed all arguments so far in this thread, and it seems many who've posted have lost sight of the real issue at hand.

    The right to defend oneself is not only a natural instinct, but one of the most basic of all rights. That right to defense exists not only in one's home, but wherever that individual may be at the time the need of defense arises; home, school, work, court, post office, fast food joint, etc. This right to defense does not exist for only a select few, but when the means of that defense is limited and/or regulated, it will only be the "select few" who have the capability of defending themselves.

    example: a 5'11", 225 lb. male is confronted with a threat; for this scenario, we will say it is a 6'2, 300 lb. criminal who wishes to do our victim harm.

    now, using that same criminal, let's say our victim is a 5'5" 125 lb. female. which victim will fare better defending themselves? i believe most on here would agree that it would be the male victim.

    now, let's give the female a "tool", if you will, to execute the defense of herself. we'll say she has in her possession a S&W 19 .357 2". The difference in stature has now been eliminated from the equation, and our small frame female now stands a better than average chance of not becoming a statistic.

    So this entire argument is really "common sense". You cannot, with fairness, lawfully regulate the means of defense without taking away the right of defense for some individuals.

    I believe in following the law, but i also believe people have the right to defend themselves at any time and at any place, using whatever means they have at their disposal. The probability of having to defend oneself in certain venues may be low, but be that as it may, as long as a criminal element exist in our society, one must always be prepared to defend; at any time and at any place. To declare, "i will not carry my weapon at place X, because nothing is going to happen to me while i'm there." is an asinine logic. It is the same thing as saying, "i have 1/8 tank of fuel remaining, but i am not going to stop at this exit and fill up with gas because i know there will probably be another station further down the road, and i'll stop there." no, you don't know. you cannot be certain when and where a threat may present itself. granted, there are locations that are more conducive to having a threat or multiple threats present, and you knowingly avoid those areas if at all possible, and even though it would be absurd, to "clam-up" and stay at home all the time to avoid threats would not obliterate the possibilty of having to defend yourself. Just watch the news or read the newspaper; home invasions are on the rise, and seem to be a favorite MO of the criminal element. An indivdual that keeps a firearm or other means of defensive tool at arms reach, or even on or about their person while in their home, is not paranoid or a "fringe lunatic". They are smart in doing so, for although they are hoping for the best, they are preparing for the worst.

    i know my post has been long, but i believe it explains why individuals should lawfully be able to carry, at any place and at any time, without a governing body weighing in.
