if Hillary gets the nomination.....
What would keep her from picking her husband as being her Vice President?
I know common sense would probably stop her from doing it. I dont think there is any legal reason why she couldn't is there??
I was reading Eisenhower by Stephen Ambrose and it was going over the thought process (or lack thereof) of him deciding if Nixon would be his running mate for his second term. For some reason, I just thought of Hillary picking Bill as HER running mate....... UGH

'Common sense' would dictate she would not be voted in as President in the first place - BUT - remember where we live - in the land of American Idol & home of only a 50% electorate!!

I don't think she can. Bill has already served his max. number of years as President......I don't think, Constitutionally speaking, he is allowed to serve as Vice
I look for him to take the U.N. Ambassador post0 -

agreed, nor could he be president of the house.0 -
He'll be the charge' de affairs' of the White House intern program. 0 -
The 22 Amendment was very poorly written and states that no one may be elected to more than two terms (or serve more than a specific period of someone elses term). If Bill were VP and Hillary stepped down (why she would is anyone guess) Bill, under the Articles of Succession, gets to finish out her term. Constitutionally old Bill can never run for the office of President again, but he can still serve again. 0 -

Oh man, I forgot about the 12th amendment........ The courts would have to decide lol.0 -
Selecting Bill to be her VP would be political suicide. The woman stands a good chance of winning if she gets the nomination [xx(], but not with Bill on the ticket. I would expect to see Bill nominated as a Supreme Court Justice if Hillary wins and a vacancy opens on the Court. 0 -
Nah...Bill would get the seat as the US Ambassador to the UN to help pave the way for a One World Govt.
Feinstein would be the Attorney General...kiss all your guns goodbye
SCOTUS Justices would die from mysterious deaths or they would all have to go on a trip and their plane would crash...then they are replaced by Liberal Justices that write law from the bench
Honestly...I think we are so screwed no matter which one gets in (McCain, Romney, Hillary or Obama).0 -

That's true. For example, LBJ became President in 1963 after JFK's assassination. He was elected in 1964 which was his first actual election. Therefore, he was able to run for re-election in 1968 even though he withdrew his nomination. The exception would have been if he had served two or more years during Kennedy's term in which case he could have only been elected once. Although I can't imagine Hillary wanting Bill to be her VP (probably in fear of her life!), I can't imagine Bill wanting to play second-fiddle to Hillary, either. I agree that Hillary would most likely appoint him an Ambassador to keep him as far away from the White House as possible.0 -

The America we once knew is on life-support. I hope to God that someday, a true conservative with some ballz will resuscitate her before it's too late. [V]0 -
does a pistol-grip on an old chauff-dispensor count as a firearm? legally speaking? 0 -
She could but she won't; he sucks all the air out of a room and she's a prima donna. 0 -
The statement about HE CAN'T is correct. The problem is being VP he is 1st in line to be prez and therefore he can't be in that position with his max term already done... 0 -
Experts argue about the Constituionality of a former prez as VP. No argeement. If it says he can't SERVE more than two terms it would seem he couldn't succeed the prez but does that mean he couldn't be VP? Maybe if she left office he just couldn't take her place?
If it says you can't be ELECTED to more than two terms, then he could succeed her as he wasn't elected.
Johnson succeeded Kennedy in 1963 and was elected in 1964. He dropped out of the primary in 1968 because of his unpopularity but I think he could have run meaning he could have served more than 8 years when done due to finishing Kennedy's term.
I'm not sure if this belongs in politics or Constitional Law Forum.
I'll have to think on it, some.0 -
My bet is she would pick Obama for VP. That would KO McCrazy. 0 -
Hillary would never pick Obama. She hates him and he is too popular and charasmatic. She won't share the spotlight.
I still say Wesley Clark. He's a Clinton toadie from way back and being a retired general she could use him as her military commitment.
He's also shorter than her.0 -

I read the Twenty-Second a little differently, but then I'm not on the Supreme Court, so your guess is as good as mine. The way I read it, after he serves two years and one day of her term he will be in violation of the 22nd Amendment. He will have served "for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President" and he will have been "elected to the office of the President more than once."
Twenty-Second Amendment
SECTION 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
SECTION 2. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.0 -
I still don't read it the way you do James. 0 -

I think your evaluation of Mrs. Rodham-Clinton is correct, but I think her lust for power will override her hatred of competition.0 -

Legally speaking, she probably could do it, but its a political non-starter. Not only would it be unprecedented in American history, but even the Democrats wouldn't stand for it.

UGHA legitimate, and substantially more serious concern is what, exactly, would Bill Clinton's role be in a new Clinton Presidency? Does anyone REALLY think that Slick Willie would simply become "First Man", and hold charity functions and bake cookies?0 -
Bill Clinton was asked the exact same question late last year.
his response was that it could be argued that the constitution says is ok cause he would only be elected twice. However, he said that it should not be allowed, because he believed the intent of the constitution was to limit the amount of time a pres has in office. A "loophole" is what he described it as and wished it would be closed. He strongly denied the possibility of trying to run as VP.
Even if he were to run, our supreme court is comprised of conservitive justices as of now.....the majority of them anyway, and I don't think they would allow it once it made it to them.0 -
Even if she could, she wouldn't. I don't think she has any intention of sharing power with him. He is a means to an end! 0 -
You might be able to make a Twelfth Amendment argument:
quote:Twelfth Amendment (last sentence)
But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.
Since he is not eligible to be elected President under the Twenty-Second Amendment, he could be deemed ineligible to take the office of Vice-President under the Twelfth Amendment.
It's just so complicated it will take at least two people to understand it.

She wouldn't share the spotlight with anyone.
Billy-Bob may be retained in some high paying but invisible, advisory position.
Whatever the political outcome, start thinking about which guns are most
important to keep and how much risk you're willing to take because it's a sure thing guns and ammo acquisition and ownership are going to tighten up.

If she is elected to a second term [God forbid] she will divorce him, his usefulness to her will be at an end. 0 -
