I called one of my old retired supply chiefs and he stated that the Winchester Model 94 was carried in the government inventory and even had a National Stock Number and was chambered in 30-30. However it was there for issue to guards at the Federal Prisons and not military units (none that he knows of). He stated that it was listed with an NSN all the way up to the mid 90s.
However, I did find that the Pacific Coast Rangers were issued the Model 94 in 30-30 during WW II. However this was under the Canadian govt and not the US govt. Amazing that the west coast of Canada was defended by young kids, guys too old for military service, hunters, trappers and Native Indians in the event that the Japanese decided to invade that coast line.
I am still looking to see if the native Alaskans used the 30-30 at all when the Japanese landed there in WW II.
