Sad day for gunowners....
With 90 million gunowners (as of the LAST potus election) we could and SHOULD, OWN the election process in America.
Last night, it became obvious, that we WANT our guns taken from us. We did not get out and OWN the process and the 2 worst of the group, the two who will condone infringements and, and if not outright, lay the path for confiscation, enjoyed enormous success!
We should all be very very ashamed.[V]

In point of fact I do not belong to the NRA, I think they are indistinguishable from the Brady crowd.
We do not agree on your political candidate, and you call us names?
You sir are a first class jerk. Have I made myself clear?

I'm still hoping that the US Suprime Court will rule that banning firearms is unconstitutional. If they do that, it will cut the legs out from under all the anti-gunners. 0 -

You mean like "freedom". Without them, you won't have any which might be ok because responsibilty goes with freedom, and that means work, huh?
NEXT!!!
JP, I think you need to take a breath and calm down. To many people, the entire idea os the US and Western Civilization doesn't consist solely of gun ownership. If that were the case, some African countries would be in better shape than we are.
You strike me as a single issue voter. (please correct me if I'm wrong) I believe you would vote for the pro gun candidate no matter what else he espoused, and I mean NO MATTER WHAT, PERIOD.
Most people in this country are not like that. They have a set of values they check against most candidates to see how well they match. And yes, I believe there are certain issues we should place before guns. I'm not anti-gun, I just believe there are some things that should be of slightly higher priority.
Of course, then there are also voters that simply vote based on what a candidate looks like or how he's dressed, etc. Those people are just strange.0 -
...As far as gun ownership goes, you NEED somebody to lead us! As you have seen you don't get 90 million gun owners to standup as one with out any leadership! In my view, the NRA is its own worst enemy! They have done little to united gun owners! ...To the contrary, they have done much to splitter us! Until that happens we will be "easy pick'ns" for the UNITED Liberals! 0 -

In this context, I take that as a compliment. Thank you!0 -

Not hardly, but that issue is the one to make a point with here.

As do I, right now it is our sovereignty, which we will not have soon, but the only way they can do it, is take our guns. See where I'm headed?0 -
Americans will wake up one day...its just a matter of time..but I hope that we wake up before its too late. 90% of us are apathetic, and that must change. Sure, there may be 90 million gun owners out there, but most of them don't really care about their rights and freedoms. When the gov't starts rounding up gun owners and taking their property, then they will be roused out of their slumber. 0 -

No they won't, why would you believe they would do it the hard way?0 -
JP
I understand that you are passionate about the RTKBA as are many of us here. However, in todays world nothing is a single issue decision any longer.
Simply because a candidate is Pro 2nd Amendment doesnt mean that we should overlook his or her other stances.
If there was a candidate who said he would revoke all the current gun laws BUT said that he intended to raise taxes to 40% of your gross pay, would you vote for that candidate?
Even if we could get a person like Paul into the Oval Office, the odds of him making sweeping changes to the country are slim to none at all...and slim is talking about leaving town. Congress will NEVER let anyone take away their power at this point. The only way to really make this change is to instill term limits at all levels of govt and the only way that will happen is if the people rise up. The political process will never allow it to happen0 -
I voted at 6am,but I'm only one and with that said the primarys are not very popular because you have to pick a party.
As far as sticking together hell we can't even stick together here of all places.0 -
I am still amused by the bloke that said we need more then 4 million members in the NRA.
Whatever for ?
So there could be a STRONGER voice for gun control ? Or have you simpler-minded folks ALREADY forgotten the Veterans Disarmarment Act..passed a couple weeks ago ?
Most of the NRA members are FOR gun control..what do THEY care if an anyi-gunner like McCain gets into office ?0 -

medic your extreme example kind makes the argument moot. I have never seen a candidate like, nor do I believe one exists.
Getting someone with guts to protect the constitution by daily shining the light on the roaches, would go a long way.
Term limits, wonderful idea. But we are mere sheep.
We can't do liitle 'ol anythin. Now lets me get get back to my tv watchin', you interuptin' spin-a-wheel.0 -
Like I said, the NRA shouldn't even be necessary. But in defense of their supporters, "votin'" getting involved from beginning to end... is just too hard. 0 -
Make all the excuses you want, there are none that are acceptable.
We get what we deserve!!
Sorry to have disturbed you, I will shut the lights back off.0 -

I don't like it any more than you do JP but the facts are the facts.
Most/way too many are simply satisfied with having the ship shoveled down their throat just so they have something to complain about.
"They've thrown in the towel" so to speak.
I truely think most just don't care any more.[:(][xx(]
With 90 million gun owners I would think GB would have 20 million members with at least 10,000 posts an hour.0 -
It does seem to be a problem esp if Clinton gets in. I can see Brady Bill X10 being introduced.
However, YES, the NRA has put its stamp on almost all gun control measures. But, then again, most of us here I would guess, think that selling firearms to convicted fellons, and mentally unstable people is not a good idea. The idea of enforcing the laws that allready exist have been the basis for many of the laws passed.
I know that since I live in Mississippi, I have a watered down sense of the overall problem. (out govn. just made it legal for us to shoot people in our yard, and anyone approaching our vehicles for ill intent.....enen if in traffic! We can now protect our property and not just our lives) Hmmmmmmmm, maybe if we have our goven as vice pres. "Haley Barbour" we may be able to ward off the gun grabbers.......just a thought.0 -

Really ?
Unless you give back a persons life...AND Rights..what incentive does said person have to go straight ?
You turned the con out...hand him his .45. OR DON'T TURN HIM OUT !!
Mentally unstable ? That decision is best left up to the individual selling the gun.
In case there is a mistake made...said 'mentally unstable' is shot after brandishning the weapon ...by a citizen carrying a weapon under the Second Amendment Right.

Do you honestly think that the president can take away our guns? The president can only do what the Senate and House lets them. Yes, I am concerned about my rights to keep and bear my arms, but I honestly do not think that they (the gov't) could take them away. I know I will take some flak for this, but I do think that the laws that are in place should be better enforced. I, as a law-abiding citizen have no problem waiting a few days to get my gun and I have no problem in having a back ground check conducted. I have nothing to hide. The major problem in this election is that George W. has put such a bad taste in everyone's mouth that most people, especially the younger generations, are fed up with the war and the Republican party in general. If the Dems do take over, we can blame good ol' "W" for it. 0 -

Thank you for your honest position of supporting gun control.
Just..PLEASE..do NOT position yourself as a Second Amendment believer. It is quite obvious that you ;
1 : Either have never read the document;
2 : OR you have read it and consider yourself smarter then the Founders.
You have also revealed that you have little knowledge of the history of gun control...and an overweening trust in the Beast.0 -

Actually...I like your reply better them most of mine.
Jars me back to reality. Handling gun controllers like they are glass, being 'sensitive' to their 'feelings' is a supreme waste of time.
They have absolutely NO consideration for their fellow man, their community, OR their country ..in the final analyses.0 -

They thought the same thing in Austrailia and England not so long ago.

i do. i am a law-abiding citizen; treat me like one. the waiting period is referred to as a "cooling-off" period. That is automatic assumption by the goverment that anyone attempting to buy a firearm has criminal motives for its use.
If the Dems do take over, we can blame good ol' "W" for it.
and apathetic voters who will sit on their sorry a$$, and subscribe to this flawed "lesser of two evils" logic.[:(!][:(!][:(!]0 -
firedude! Thank you 1000 times. I was going to reply in a similar manner, yours was better, as was moonshines better than highballs[:D] 0 -
Hold on...I do believe in the "Right to keep and bear arms". But, I don't believe that persons of low moral character, aka convicted felons, family violence offenders or persons of altered mental status should have the right. These people have either dislayed a tendancy for violence and or have a mental status that would otherwise render them incompetent. Secondly, if you, as a "law-abiding citizen" wish to own or possess any firearm, you should have that right, but what is the problem in waiting a few days to ensure that one of the above mentioned people are weeded out. I don't think this is "gun control", just steps to ensure that the rest of us can enjoy our guns. I believe in and stand by the Constitution of the United States and nor do I question the intentions of our fore-fathers. I can assure you, that should the day come, I would fight, by any means necessary, to keep my guns. And what I was referring to by the president's power, was that we, the gun owners, would not allow a ban on our weapons through electing and voting in the proper officials. That's all. 0 -
It'll be a bad day for whoever comes around where I am from and tries to take away our guns. I dont know anybody with out atleast one behind a door in there house. 0 -

because the 2nd does not read "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms after a mandatory 5 day waiting period, shall not be infringed."
I don't think this is "gun control", just steps to ensure that the rest of us can enjoy our guns.
It is just steps alright; incremental steps that will eventually lead to the destruction of RTKBA. See tiger, it will not be done all at once; too risky, and the gun-grabbers know that, "that dog wouldn't hunt." Instead, they are doing it slowly, with small steps disguised as "common-sense" gun control. It is nothing more than a "Trojan horse". Pass one restriction, then let everybody get used to it. wait a few months/years, then pass another restriction. let everybody get used to that one, and so on until one day; Boom, the RTKBA is non-existent.
And what I was referring to by the president's power, was that we, the gun owners, would not allow a ban on our weapons through electing and voting in the proper officials.
But it seems, judging by voter turnout yesterday, that most gun-owners either:
1) did not vote OR
2) bought into the philosophy that, "we must vote for who the party tells us to vote for, or else we will lose the election."[:(!]0 -

That's another part of the problem. They get "turned out" when they shouldn't. HB I think the convict would be better off with job then a gun.
Mentally unstable ? That decision is best left up to the individual selling the gun.
Why should I have the right to deny someone their 2nd rights when we say the goverment doesn't?
In case there is a mistake made...said 'mentally unstable' is shot after brandishning the weapon ...by a citizen carrying a weapon under the Second Amendment Right.
What if he was just showing it to someone?
Another scenario is person A sees a holdup. Draws and fires in a heroic fashin. "Saves the day" Person B doesn't see the holdup only person A shooting the criminal. Then shoots person A thinking he just murdered "someone" Then person C shoots person B thinking the same thing, and so on. This could really happen and I know many would think it's the price we pay for freedom but it's very realistic.

Should we return to lawlessness? As much as I love the "wild west" movies I think were better off with the law.
There is no win,win situation for everybody/everything.
Sad but it's just the way it is.0 -
So, what is the answer? Let EVERYONE own a gun and then let the best shots weed them out? I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, but if let's say EVERBODY can get a gun, pretty soon, we've got two or three more Virginia Tech type shootings because some whacko went to the local pawn shop and buys a gun. Then, you're gonna have more pressure and momentum from the anti-gunners, media and the public. And in turn, more strict laws. Then what? I don't have the answers and don't pretend to either. But, my job as a Police Officer is the protection of life, limb, and property and if any cook-job or convicted murderer could own a gun without consequences, my job would be alot harder, and society as a whole would suffer. Just my opinion, and opinions are like buttholes, everybody's got one and most stink. 0
