I want to hunt

I am new to california and hunting. I grew up eating elk, antilope and deer from the Uncles. I've only been hunting a few times as a kid where we just rode around in an suv in Wyoming till we saw deer than got out and shot them. But I really dont know squat about it.

I have lots of rifles and want to do 2 things


1) Go out and shoot unencumbered to learn how

2) Go hunting for meat and fun.



Where do I go and how do I get started?

    What the hell does that mean? Sounds like spray and pray, which is only used if you are hunting Jamaican drug dealers. Oh wait, you did say California right?

    Start by joining a local gun club, shooting range, the local chapter of GOA or even NRA which does good things locally.

    If that doesn't work you can meet a nice girl at church and forget hunting.

    Whatever you do, avoid on-line gunboards and on-line gun nuts.

    Well if you're around Bakersfield, Ca you can go up in the Kern Canyon for quail (valley & mountain) and you can go up higher around Lake Isabella to go deer hunting. Or over to Paso Robles and do both and go pig hunting. ...FYI Good Luck!

    I think there is some good wild hog hunting up there in Northern California. Try to get into that, that is fun and the meat is great.

    I'm going deer hunting next Saturday. First time I've gone off the porch for hunting.
