I thought those things had to be surgically removed. Can't imagine much meat there.

I believe in a very small town south of freeport they have a large turkey operation, and just like rockey mountian oysters its a one time event.

Taste like chicken and they are good just bread them and put them in the fryer and serve with shrimp sause. Turkey, lamb, bull nuts are great Mountain oysters. Don't knock them until you have tried them mmmmmmmmmmmmmmuuuuuugood. I had a freind over he was dead sat against eating them so I mixed them with crappie and they looked the same. He ate one and said was that a nut and I said yes and he said send them back here. He couldn't stop eating them.[:D][:p][:p][^]

I forgot we use to light freeze them and then sliced them real thin and put them in the hot grease just like deep frying fish. O so good.

If you eat the testicles, why throw away the anus? One would think, that either would be just as nasty.

As my dad would have said" Anyone who would eat that, would probably eat a dirty pair of shorts too!"

You know, in the old days the only thing that was thrown away was the moo. The bung was always cleaned soaked in salt and cleaned again and stuffed with various sausage recipes, hung, smoked, and cured.

Freemind if you a idea of what you ate you wouldn't eat again, Hot dogs, Sasuage and while were at it have you ever went into the Kitchen of the restaurants and see how they prepare your food. If you have that feeling I suggest you don't go in the Kitchen.

How about a aged steak, that's when the cell are breaking down from being dead and that's what makes it good. What's the dirtiest animal in the barn yard, Pig No try again it's the chicken who follows the pigs and cows around picking out the used corn. I guess you haven't ate chicken for a while. Do you eat shrimp and what's the brown line in it, Guess. Catfish or other bottom feeders what do you think they eat and you eat them. Sorry but think before you slam some food your eating worse. Like Sarge-3 said in the old day they ate everything and a lot of people still do. Hope I didn't ruin you dinner haha[:D][}:)][8D]

You guys still use KRS ? (My aging memory calls it that)..purple stuff, used to spray the bag ?

Friend of the Boss came out one day..wanted to 'cut just one,again'..claimed he was an old hand at it...[:D]

Took awhile for him to to do the job..after awhile, I figured he finally had it, and went to open the gate. Heard a bellow of pain, and 'friend' was staggering away from the 'chute...face was BRIGHT PURPLE...Idiot had turned the can the wrong way..sprayed his face !!!

Tol us it stung like ######%#%^&**(().....took awhile for that stuff to wear off his face...

    sarge, you are so right!
if you guys have peoblems with that, you wouldnt like stirring scrapple. but getting those kettle scrapeings on fresh home made bread was heavon for us kids!
and dont forget those other "scrap" cuts...
cow tounge, calf brain with eggs for breakfast, pigs foot jelly, tripe, (made from pork, not the fish)
those were the main specials around butcherin time, want to broaden your tastes? live or work on a poor folk farm, or like us just a bunch of cheap damned dutchmen

I believe they all dock the tails and teeth when they are about a day old now, at least we did when I worked pigs. Also cut the boars at the same time.

We always just deep fried them to my best recollection. I was too young to get in on the cooking of them. I don't rember if they were battered or not. I do remember that I liked mustard on them though.
This discussion came up at work a few years ago. A guy said that he would never eat them because of what they were. An older guy asked him if he ever ate "ice cream". He said yeah. "Well that is just suxing dik by proxy." I thought that said it best.
Mountain oysters are tasty. I have also eaten tongue. My Grandma could make the best brain sandwiches you could eat.

Sliced and sauted in olive oil and garlic, maybe breaded.
Sweetbreads in a cream sauce ( a lot of preparation ).
When in college (early /mid 60's) I could get tongue and heart for $.33/lb. A dollar would get me a meal and a week of sandwich meat.

I don't balk at eating meat, organs, skin, and bits scraped from the face, bones, whatever. Good stuff.

I draw the line at balls. They may be animal's balls but it just is a bit too close to being gay to sit there enjoying a meal of testicles.

Our church is having a Wild Game Supper next Saturday. I'm calling the organizer tonight. I think he'll love the idea.

It's not wild, but my guess is many people would eat raccoon before bull nuts.
