ASSCAR's COT

I wonder who will be in the first death in the COT, or as Tony Stewart calls it "Brick on Wheels". The thing doesn't turn. Drivers wna to turn. ASSCAR expects them to merely slowdown. I expect someone to go in the wall.

They made the claim it was necessary for safety, but from what I've seen, that car is unsafe at any speed. Plus it makes for some boring IROC races. If drivers have more difficulty handling the universal car, it ain't any safer.

Tony Stewart or Kurt Busch is my guess.

    That is incredibly negative. The car is bigger, heavier, has a lot more safety features. I seriously doubt anyone dies.

    The Bud Shoot-out was the best race I have seen in a long time. I was not a COT fan but I like what I have seen so far at Daytona.

    Regarding safety: yes, the current NASCAR-mandated spring+shock package for the rear is not quite right. The cars are getting loose over the bumps. However, the grip provided by that back wing causes them to snap right back in line. Even the doubters like Hendrick are coming around.

    Don't worry, they'll constantly be mucking with it. Just like the weather, if it don't suit you, wait til tomorrow.

    If they wanted all the cars to be the same, why not just rename the series "IROC" and get it over with? NASCAR, for those history buffs, was started on the principle of fast cars of all kinds, not semi-fast cars that are identical in every way except for the paint job.

    I think the COT (crap of tomorrow) is a safer car and with the soft walls I don't think we'll see another Dale Sr or Adam Petty type of death in the near future. I don't know if the racing will be any better than what it was in the good ole day's but the Shootout the other night was pretty good to watch. The problem I have is all the new tracks like Kansas City, Chicago, and California. They are the most boring to watch. NASCAR blew it by moving the Labor Day race from Darlington to California. They need more short track races and I think they need to run 1 or 2 races on dirt. I also think they need to change qualifying. I would like to see a couple of heat races followed by an A and B main with a feature race like on local tracks. Mix things up a little. I get tired of watching 3 hours of them going round and round.

    It's not a bad idea. That would make it more of a team sport again and take it back form 42 drivers driving identical cars, which is boring.

    The one thing that makes this car "safer" is being a slower car. At some short tracks last year, this car was slower than the Busch cars AND the Craftsman trucks. Yet the car still won't turn.

    "Unsafe at any speed" still comes to mind.

    I remember a few years ago when the trucks and Busch cars ran faster than the cup cars at Daytona. That was with the old body style but more restrictive restricter plates. Some of the practice speeds this year were the same as last year. I don't have as much a problem with the COT's being bigger as I do having them all being identical. I actually had an oportunity to talk with Bobby Allison several years ago at an airshow and he hated the restricter plates. He said they should take them away and slow the cars down aerodynamically. He suggested putting the scoop back in where the headlights are and going to narrower tires. Hopefully they will tweak the cars some more and make it more intersting to watch. I've quit going to the races because of the way they're trying to ruin the sport. I went to my first IRL race last summer and enjoyed it so much I've started paying more attention to it. NASCAR had better get it back to the way it was or they're going to lose their long time fans.
