NcStar Scopes
I'm putting together a savage 93 in .17 for my grand daughter.I'e seen a couple of NCstar scopes in 9-16x40 in local shops.Are these scopes any good?The price is right but i'm not sure about the brand.We are bench shooters but I don't want to spend a fortune on a scope for a kid's rifle.

First off, I know, I know, you get what you pay for, I know that.
I am simply asking about NcStar scopes.
Are they decent, bad, good?
Im looking to spend under 200 bucks, and my local guy has about 20 NcStar scopes in his store.
Edit: I have never used a scope before in my life, not once. Any other recomendations on scopes are welcome, distance for shooting would never venture further than 100 yards.0 -

Anyone tried these scopes. I just bought one for 60 bucks. 3-12x56, couldn't turn it down. I know you get what you pay for, but you know how it is. Thought I would put it on my .17 marlin and see how it works.

Amen to that! Avoid the NcStar scopes, they are garbage.
You can pick up a new Sightron 3-9x40 for about $130. Much, much better than the NcStar!0 -
Sportsman Guide had a Barska 6.5-20X50mm for something like $50.
It's a good economically priced scope.0 -
Chris is guess that is why he has sooo many in stock. He also has some norinco scopes in stock, i might just pick one up because its a norinco.
Allrights guys, i wont go with a NcStar. Now, where can i find out how to properly use a scope. I am totally ignorant when it comes to operation of one. And also, would a boresighter help me set my scope up?0 -
go to your local gun dealer, buy a scopeand he should mount it for free and tell you all you need to know 0 -
i hate getting off the subject line but have a little info for you .
my friend bought a bsa the other day ,it is a 3x9 with an illuminated dot which can also be used a a normal reticle .52 bucks at dicks ,seems like an interesting scope .
but for around a hundrend dollars you can get a nikon (very highly recommened ). someone here posted this link a couple of days ago .its a great assortment of scopes at sale prices .take a look .

if you max shot is to be 100 yards a 2-7 scope will be fine and maybe to your likeing .most people choose a 3x9 .a 3x9x40 is a good start er (multiple use)scope .you'll find a nikon 3x9 on the list for 99-109 dollars .0 -

I also have one on 30-30 contender handgun no problems here. But I would spend as much as you can on a better known scope....My .02...Bull0 -

You can mount a scope without a bore sighter, though I use a Leupold Zero Point boresighter myself. The book will tell you how to do it right, and you will never have to pay to have it done again. If you don't want to lap the rings to get the scope mounted right, then get Burris singature rings.0 -
Their rifle scopes are so so in my book. I can't say as I'm impressed, but haven't had issues.
Their spotting scopes are top notch though.0 -
NcStars I have I'm happy with (got three 2-7X32, 4X32 and 6-24X50) I didn't like them using 1" tubes on their lines of scope, though. At least if anything goes wrong send it back to the factory with $10 and they'll either fix it or send you a new one right quick (in about a week been there).

No way would I spend $200 on a NcStar. I paid at most for the 6-24X50 was about $125.00 and that included shipping. For a scope you don't really care about they ain't bad[:D]. For $200 I'd look in to Nikon (but that depends on what power and where it's going).0 -

Nikon for $109? Thats a strong deal. If you can't get the Nikon, some Simmons higher end scopes are pretty nice too. Around $150 - $200. 0 -
U may want to take a look at this, expalined alot of questions i had, about how to actually USE a MIL.DOT scope correctly.

Here is mine on the AR9 Colt. You will have to grind the mount to clear the 42MM head of the scope. No biggie. It is a 3x9 Mildot. I think I paid $50 bucks new for it at a gunshow.
