What is hotlinking?
Someone please explain so that this doesn't happen again.

right click on properties you will see it is not from my album, most webmasters do not allow you to use their photos, and as a revenge you sometimes get a nasty photo, some webmasters just use a blocker with a not so disturbing photo such as

Well he mentioned Hotlink but I was thinking something else. Don0 -
You put these bracketed IMG things (highlighted in red) on both sides of a picture link so it shows up for every one to see ...here is a hotlink that is missing the last bracket. if you put that bracket on, everyone will see the below picture.

Hotlinking can get you into a mess quick.
Bandwidth theft or "hotlinking" is direct linking to a web site's files (images, video, etc.). An example would be using an <img> tag to display a JPEG image you found on someone else's web page so it will appear on your own site, eBay auction listing, weblog, forum message post, etc.
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data transferred from a web site to a user's computer. When you view a web page, you are using that site's bandwidth to display the files. Since web hosts charge based on the amount of data transferred, bandwidth is an issue. If a site is over its monthly bandwidth, it's billed for the extra data or taken offline.
A simple analogy for bandwidth theft: Imagine a random stranger plugging into your electrical outlets, using your electricity without your consent, and you paying for it.
Hotlinking can get you in trouble quick if you are not careful. Take what just happened on the "Presidential homes" thread. The site that mrken3235 used to hotlink the photos from used the Switcheroo trick that caused everyone to see pornographic images instead of what he had intended for people to see. Yet mrken3235 only saw the images that he thought he posted.
Using hotlinks to photo hosting sites such as Photobucket is safe. For you own the photos that you have in your account.
I have saw what just happen. Happen to a few unsuspecting members on a board that I use to moderate. Saw it even happen to Moderators.
Need to give mrken3235 a chance for like I said. It can happen to anyone of us at any time if we use hotlinking.0 -

No.. A switcheroo or other hotlinking warning will not show up.
But 99.9% of web sites contains copy written material including the photos that are on the site. So then copy write laws can come into effect. I have only witnessed first hand one person being charged with a copy write crime. They had downloaded a bunch of music from a site that they thought as free. They are still paying off the $5500.00 fine they received.0 -
